Alternative Character Interpretation / Jeremiah

  • In a Deleted Scene from "The Long Road", the skinhead leader seems intrigued while taking in how the Thunder Mountain team raided his camp and rescued the minority individuals he was holding prisoner. Is he thrilled at the opportunity for a fight out of a desire to seize Thunder Mountain's supplies and/or simple bloodlust? Or is he excited at the idea of someone with powerful weapons and a sense of justice finally restoring order and prosperity to the Crapsack World he is forced to endure, regardless of how sympathetic they are to his ideas?
  • Is the Montana Posse Comitatus warlord faction mentioned in "And the Ground ... Sown with Salt" the Montana Neo-Nazi group Jeremiah mentions in the pilot, or a peacekeeper group resisting them? Michael implies that they will end up fighting Thunder Mountain sooner or later, but that never does happen, and it’s possible that Michael was assuming that Thunder Mountain had sinister goals that might bring it into conflict with heroic factions. Michael also probably wasn't above manipulating Jeremiah and Kurdy with false intelligence.
  • Is the Mad Scientist from "Red Kiss" a Well-Intentioned Extremist working to counter the Valhalla Project's actions, a mere Snake Oil Salesman who lies to justify his actions to Kurdy and/or himself, or a covert Valhalla Sector flunky?
  • Given how Farralon from "City of Roses" is working on a vaccine project that seems to answer to the Valhalla Sector, but some heroic characters seem to trust that he is working to contain the virus rather than help weaponize it (although they could be wrong) and he never tries to detain Jeremiah, is he a pragmatic Villain with Good Publicity or an Unwitting Pawn?
  • In-Universe and out of it, it is debated whether pilgrims in "Journeys End at Lovers Meeting" Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence or follow through with a Suicide Pact. The characters seem more inclined to think it was the latter, but Mr. Smith's apparent powers in season 2 give more credence to the divine explanation, and it would have been difficult for the pilgrims to drown themselves without having their bodies float back to the surface. And if the former possibility is true, what did they mean when they were interrupted after telling Kurdy "It would be unfair of us to ask you to finish this journey without explaining everything."
  • In "The Touch", is Neil The Dragon having a Villainous Breakdown like his boss as the town turns against them or a My God, What Have I Done? reaction to hearing his crimes put into words during the climax?
  • In "Mother of Invention", Kurdy and Jeremiah are briefly taken prisoner by another community and a guard named Doug apologizes to Kurdy and treats him decently. Doug later tries to trick Kurdy into helping him overthrow his boss and is also exposed as a thief, but whether he was playing Kurdy from the start or their first interaction was a sincere Pet the Dog moment is unclear.
  • How much does Karl, a defector from the Army of Daniel from "Voices in the Dark", know about Daniel? He says he was highly placed in the group and makes a cryptic remark that contains Foreshadowing that there is no Daniel, but it seems odd that he never reveals that information to people who could have used it. Is he in the dark about it, similiar to Sims? Is he afraid of a Cassandra Truth reaction? Is he willing to help people escape from the tyranny of Daniel but reluctant to use his knowledge to destroy the organization he helped build? Or is he afraid of being shunned or attacked for his role in things if the truth gets out?
    • Is Libby lying when she says that she is In Love with the Mark after seducing Jeremiah to spy on him for the first half of season 2? She has a flat and unemotional look on her face when she makes that statement and could just be saying it to make [[folder:Smith]] more conflicted about their standoff.
