Chapter 13: Deus Ex Machina vs Diabolus Ex Machina

Having destroyed much of the one remaining galaxy, but not the heroes, Dr. Beljar exasperatedly asks why they're not dead yet (I say it's a result of Plot Armor and Batman Can Breathe in Space), before commanding his dragon slave to attack them, and fighting alongside Beast Boy with the Dark Prognosticus. Terra reluctantly uses the Light Prognosticus against Beast Boy, but Dr. Beljar smugly says it isn't good enough, shortly before Copy Cat shoots him with a white burst of energy.

The two sides trade fire for some time, to the music of the final battle with Ganon from Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time (It's a great game, with an awesome soundtrack, but the final battle wasn't one of the standout tracks). The heroes realize their efforts aren't getting them anywhere as far as Beast Boy or Dr. Beljar are concerned; it doesn't help that you can't see the sides getting progressively more injured over time.

They realize that they're running out of time, and the galaxy will soon "blow" (which seems like a misnomer for what will happen when The Void devours it), and Dr. Beljar similarly takes smug satisfaction in his inevitable victory... until the minions show up, declaring that they're here "to help the heroes destroy (him) for good".

Dr. Beljar lets out a Big "WHAT?!", and the heroes are surprised, (although the standard Teen Titans + Doom Patrol + Copy-Cat + Terra group shot doesn't let anyone truly show it). The minions realize that they can't defeat Dr. Beljar on their own, but plan on holding him back so that the heroes can get through to Beast Boy (which leads one YouTube comment poster to say that the minions were better friends than the Titans ever were; it seems Mykan has people with similar perspectives out there).

Of course, Beast Boy still can't control himself, and the heroes are running out of power. Terra, desperate and refusing to give up, defies Starfire and Robin's objections to charge Beast Boy head on. This goes about as well as you'd expect at first, as Beast Boy grabs Terra, putting her at his mercy and preventing the others from attacking. Terra then puts her plan into action, begging Beast Boy to remember how they were falling in love before she changed (resulting in "The girl you want me to be is just a memory" being played for the umpteenth time), and she apologizes.

Beast Boy hesitates and reacts, resulting in Dr. Beljar declaring what happened to be "Impossible!" (Looking at him now, particularly the shape of his head and mouth, he looks like he was based off of Gizmo).

With Beast Boy free, the heroes plan to finish off Dr. Beljar. The minions hold Dr. Beljar down, knowing that the blast will destroy them too, because they are loyal to Beast Boy, even though their characterization gives us little reason why. Beast Boy is briefly touched by this before he and the heroes fire their attacks, finishing off Dr. Beljar and the Dark Prognosticus. With that, the void vanishes andthe world returns to normal.

Final Installment: The story comes to a conclusion,

N. Harmonik,

To see a list of my other liveblogs, click on my name below the liveblog title. I don't know of any way to do the same with reviews, though; there's a "Your Reviews" button, but no function that I know of that works for other people.
