TEG Chapter 20: A Hell of an Ending

Written By: Thomas
Proofread By: Ebony
POV: Jerry
Deaths: Hades (1)

The authors' note this time is on a slightly more conciliatory note, as the author is ending this fic on the request of someone named Robert Siegfried, and continuing work on Battle with the Witches (which started back in Chapter 11). He says BWTW will be "less forceful" than this one, although he maintains that there's nothing wrong with this fic.

Jerry and Percy find themselves in Hell, where the heat makes them sweat; considering how hot Hell is, one would think they would pass out from the heat or burn alive. They see some sinners chained up and are glad (although one would think that the goal of fundamentalist Christians is to prevent people from going to Hell), with Percy being especially glad he turned away from evil.

They eventually find a locked door, and pray for God to open it. Inside the room is Hades, who has burning red skin, horns, smoke coming out of his mouth and black flames on his hands, making him the character with the most detailed description in this fic.

The Prayer Warriors tell him that for his crimes against Christians, he will burn in hell, forgetting that he's already there.

Hades shrugs this off, saying that he is stronger than God and Jesus, and feared by all. He says that he's immune to swords, and is a master sword fighter himself. He then says that he's the strongest of all the Greek Gods, and that there is no way on Earth they can defeat him.

Does he sound like he'll actually be a challenge to the Prayer Warriors this time? Not even remotely; the Prayer Warriors take advantage of the loopholes in his statement; 1)they're not on Earth and 2)they have a weapon greater than a sword. They pray, and then kill him, much like they did with Grover in the first chapter, and declare that this is why no one takes on a Prayer Warrior.

Somehow, Jerry and Percy return to the world of the living to have a Christian celebration, despite having been willing to risk not just dying, but being stuck in Hell forever. Jerry marries Clarisse, of all people (who should be dead since the second chapter), while Satan retreats back to England.

That's all for The Evil Gods Part 1. Next up is Battle with the Witches, which, at this point, has been going on for some time. One thing to note about The Prayer Warriors is that there are often multiple fics going on at the same time, which sometimes makes it difficult to tell who in the fairly large cast is doing what at a given time. It's a bit reminiscent of the largely separate POVs in A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, but in this case, it would be like if George R. R. Martin had the second book start midway through the timespan of the first book. It's somewhat surprising how a fundamentalist Christian propaganda fic can be so convoluted.

Next Installment: While Jerry is waging war against the Greek Gods, one of his subordinates is given an assignment to infiltrate Hogwarts.
