Been a busy few days, and you've all been patient. We are so very close to the ending! Very little else for me to do. Sold a few crummy items I did not need, but otherwise, we mosey on.

Scene 26: Grail

The shrine of Kulyn is another water map. The road to the boss is pretty clear. The town of Angua is an ideal spot to intercept enemy units. But otherwise it's a simple map. Because the enemy squads include an even number of air, water, and land units, no town is safe from their reach. Thankfully, there's not that many towns so we can keep most of them garrisoned. Sadly. so few towns means we are likely to lose money every turn. It's therefore in our best interest to finish the map as soon as possible so our warfunds do not melt like ice cream under the Sahara sun.

Tridan is found and freed by Fenril for XIV: Temperance. We meet a monk.

General Luvalon is said to be the best Swordsman in the 4 Devas.
Wasn't that said about Figaro?
It's also said he bathed in Dragon blood and is now invincible!
Clearly he Did Not Do The Research: Eating mermaid flesh is where it's at.
Would you like me to use my magic to find Luvalon's weakness?
The game actually glitches at this point. I can't see the options to choose! But I know what the options are. for 150k, she will tell you he's weak to fire, and give you a Boleas, a fire sword. Nice, but her price is kinda steep. So I decline (I hope).

Princess Norn frees Lon Locques for XX: Judgement. There we meet a thief.

On. Things are so good thanks to you! I want to thank you, ok?
Needless to say, accepting a bribe from the thieves will CRUSH your reputation. We need it maxed out to acquire the holy grail. So we decline.
Oh good for you. I am actually a monk in disguise sent to test you. The best way to earn the trust of the people is to avoid evil!
The irony? If you say yes. You do get a gift. Fucker. Couldn't he give me the thing anyway?

Canopus frees Lastanshon for I: Magician. Since Luvalon is weak to fire, this is a welcomed boon!

There is little reason to take this area. Strategically and Politically. Yet Endora has sent one of the 4 Devas here! Do you know why? There can be only one reason... Endora is after the Grail. She probably wants to use it to try to restore what is left of her Empire.

Destin frees Gwadorn for XXI: World. Good! Remember, we need stockpiles of that card!

There are many legends about the Grail in this area. If you want to know more about the Grail, go to the city of Martinique.
Again I wonder if we have a case of Japanese L/R confusion and the city is supposed to be called "Martinique", like the RL country. Infact, it's called that in some dialogues.

Lans frees Angua for XIX: Sun. This is good, actually. Since the clock is reset to noon, it buys us more time before budget time! Yes! But I turn down the card. Don't need it for combat.

On the island to the north is the shrine of Kyulin. It is now a fort for the Empire. General Luvalon has been stationed there. This is not a strategically important area. I wonder why the empire is there?

Leon and Gilbert meet a sorceror with two wyverns. The SE temple is freed for IV: Emperor.

25 years ago, when Endora started the war, a single warrior came to this temple. There was something special about that knight I can't put my finger on... His name? Parcival I think it was...

Cube, now Paladin, meets a shaman with two wyverns. No match for his own wyvern, dollmaster and monk. Gilbert and Leon meet 3 paladins and one griffon. Canopus fights three eaglemen with two mages.

Maltinique/Martinique is freed for XVII: Star.

Since Long ago, it has been said that the Grail possesses amazing powers. It looks like an ordinary cup, but for some reason, just looking at it calms the heart. Everyone someone creates a new government, they want to use the Grail. Unfortunately, this has caused many wars through history.

Gilbert next meets three nixies and a Kraken. He loses, but takes out two nixies and no casualties. So yay! Dillan the Lich meets three eaglemen with an octopus. No match of a Lich, a Sorceror, and a Devil, with two ninja masters. Gilbert fights a Dragoner and two Red Dragons II. He wins. This is followed by an encounter with three Samurai Masters and two ninjas.

San Martin is freed by Gilbert for V: Hierophant.

San Martin has grown to be a major trading center for the Ryhan sea. Many cities around Kuylin have prospered that way.

I send Warren to reinforce Gilbert, and move closer to the boss (Luvalon has no special dialogue with anyone, not even Debonair, and since he is weak to magic, Warren's team of slaughtermasters are the best for the job). Warren does his thing and butchers 3 eaglemen with an octopus. Three Samurai Masters and two ninjas follow a similar quick black-magic filled death.

Rather than free the remaining town (Trust me, theres little new exposition beyond what we already know), I move Warren to go teach the last Deva the meaning of pain. I rather go for a swift finish and avoid the lost of money Budget time would cause me.

However, rather than deprive you of the info, I will fill in the missing details of the towns we are skipping:

  • King Gran found the Grail in the shrine. But he never used it (as no one ever saw it). No one is sure of where he put it.
  • Parcival was a knight of Gran. Gran sent him when the war began to Kyulin, with orders to take the Grail and keep it out of Endora's hands. A mission he has done for 25 years.
  • Luvalon is looking for Parcival in the shrine.

Anyway, Luvalon, who is, strangely, a blond black dude, is another General. Not much different than any we've fought so far. He has 4 Samurai for an escort, but his weakness to fire, and his escort's outdated classes (Samurai and not masters) means Warren steamrolls over him. Even the Magician card I used feels like a waste.

Defeating Luvalon, he gives us his sword, Bizen. Bizen is black elemental, with +11 strength. Honestly, not bad, not great. And since we have only a handful of bosses left, and all of them are resistant to black magic...

We must revisit the boss castle. There, Percival comes out of hiding to meet us!
I am glad to see you have made it this far. My name is Parcival. In place of King Gran I have guarded the Grail until this dsy. The stories I heard are true. You Destin, are no doubt a true hero! Please accept the Grail, you are destined to be it's next keeper! Please use the Grail to calm this land and bring relief to the suffering.

And this gives us the Grail, third of Zenobia's three Mystic Treasures! With the Grail, The Mystic Armbands, and Brunhild, our collection to get the best ending is complete!

There is only ONE level between us and Endora! I still need votes. Right now, there's no character with a majority vote between Destin and Debonair! Quick. Vote. Because the time to face Endora is approaching fast!

Next time: Rauny confronts her Father, Overlord Hikash.

I've decided who I want to fight Rashidi: Saradin. Hope that'll work.

So, the mystical grail held by Percival of the Round Table...uh, I mean Parcival of King Gran's Table, is just an ordinary-looking cup that 'calms the heart'? This is a world where demonic overlords truly exist and you've personally met the Goddess of Justice; you'd think there'd be a more developed backstory on this thing. Or is it just me?

It's on par with the series really. Take a Public Domain Artifact and never explain how it exists. Tactics Ogre The Knight Of Lodis has the spear of longinus, but no Jesus. So how DID the spear get it's mojo? Heck, earlier in the game, Deneb referenced Romeo And Juliet. Where DOES Shakespeare fit in Zenobia?

The calm the heart thing seems to be a translation hiccup. From what I heard, the Japanese version implies it's more mind control, allowing to kind of "impose" peace on the land, or force people to obey you, should it be used by someone evil (though you can only get it with a mexed out reputation, and while it's possible to have Evil Destin and full rep, it's unlikely)

And heck, the Grail is positively rich in back story compared to the Mystic Armbands. We are never told what those do.
