Hello and Other Important Warnings

Cinematech: Nocturnal Emissions was a show on the G4 network that ran for 78 episodes from August 31st, 2005 to April 6th, 2007. It was a Darker and Edgier spinoff of Cinematech, a straighter example of a Video Games clip show. This liveblog will review and MST the clips and games that I consider the most interesting from the series' run for various reasons. Who knows, we might just learn something! But the boring episodes where we don't learn anything will be skipped.

Please note that the original Cinematech: Nocturnal Emissions series was generally rated TV-14, and featured games that were unrated by the ESRB. Some links may be NSFW!

Why would I do a liveblog on Cinematech Nocturnal Emissions before the original Cinematech? Well, frankly, I think that, as fun as Nocturnal Emissions was, the original is ultimately better. One day, I may get around to doing a liveblog for that, too.

I'm putting this under Games in the index because this is not a straight example of a cartoon or a live action TV program. It's all about Video Games, anyway.

Since this is my first-ever attempt at a liveblog, comments, criticisms, and suggestions are welcome, but not necessary.

While we are still in the intro stage, I need to explain that the timecodes for certain clips are important. Some are more important than others, but I feel a need for continuity here. Dialog taken from the games receive their own bullets, and the speaker's names/titles will be written in bold. Lyrics will be listed in the ever-edgy italics. Sometimes, I may comment on the dialog itself.

With that out of the way, it's time to spoil some of the tropes that will appear in this liveblog, in no particular order...

Ear Worm, Fanservice, Fan Disservice, Jiggle Physics, Bishōnen, Widget Series, Anime, So Bad, It's Good, No Export for You, Nightmare Fuel, Hentai, Squick, Selective Squick, Gorn, and What Do You Mean, It's Not Awesome?. I think that'll cover it for now.

Actually, the unreleased 3DO game was called Duelin' Fireman.

Also why didn't you include Budokai 3 in that? Was it not in the episode?

Okay, I'll correct that. I wasn't sure of the title.

I didn't include Budokai 3 because I only rented it once, and didn't really remember much about it. In actuality, no Dragon Ball games were in that episode; I just piggybacked a mini-review of other anime games I've played onto the installment because the episode featured Elemental Gelade.

Well, I OWNED Budokai 3. Lemme tell you - until the Tenkaichi series came out, it was the BEST DBZ game in the market. An immersive story mode with multiple characters, and not only did it expand on some things via branching paths (such as Vegeta's time raising Trunks), but it also managed to somewhat reconcile the presence of GT elements in the game (SS 4 Goku and Gogeta, and Omega Shenron).

That sounds kinda awesome. I love branching paths. :D
