* AlternateCharacterInterpretation:
** Most viewers tend to think that this is a straightforward story about the bad girl, Evie, corrupting the good girl, Tracy, and that Evie's guardian, Brooke, is just completely clueless when she claims that it is Tracy who is having the bad influence on Evie. But while Evie definitely seems to have problems at the beginning of the film, she still seems to become much less functional as her friendship with Tracy progresses, and it must be noticed that she and Tracy increasingly exclude Evie's other friends almost as much as they exclude Tracy's former friends. So it may be that the two are having a bad influence on each other, and that it's not all a one-way street.
** Tracy's scream at the end. Was it a frustrated scream from realizing how she had behaved, or was it a "relieved" scream, symbolizing that she was letting all the bad stuff go?
* DesignatedVillain: Evie. While we're clearly meant to side with the Freelands, both Evie and Tracy have bad influences on each other, making it unclear who the real toxic friend is. It's possible this is intentional, considering Evie is played by the actress who was Tracy in real life - and may have wanted her to seem somewhat sympathetic.
* MemeticMutation: "No bra, no panties!"
** "Shake it don't break it, bitch!"
* LesYay: Between Tracy and Evie.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** This was the film debut of Music/VanessaHudgens; Working Title wound up casting her and co-star Brady Corbet the next year in the infamous live-action adaptation of Series/Thunderbirds.
** Nikki Reed would be more recognisable these days for Film/LordsOfDogtown, , Series/TheOC and Series/SleepyHollow.
* Squick: The threesome that almost happened between Tracy, Evie, and Luke. Especially with the fact that the two girls are minors.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: Despite the fact that the film is about teenage rebellion and the poster could be misinterpreted as something much tamer, it is not actually aimed at teenagers. Roger Ebert even noted this in his review, saying it earned its R-rating.
!!The series:
* FridgeHorror: Ivy tells detectives that Mark White won't rape Phoebe because "everything has to be proper, and proper is sixteen", but Ivy was only thirteen when she was abducted. That would mean he kidnapped Ivy, imprisoned her, and just waited three years until she was (in his mind) old enough to rape. He's already horrifying but that adds a whole new layer to it.

That “rightfully” and a lot of other things in the entry were /way/ too biased— and also makes it seem like it’s a sure thing that his accuser was lying, when in reality it’s not known (by excluding evidence that make him seem potentially guilty). It also feels like a stretch to connect these things. If someone else feels that it DOES fit they can add it back in, I won’t change it— but I do think it should be written in a way that’s less one-sided.

** Tracy's rude, disrespectful and downright bitchy behaviour becomes even more disgusting in hindsight after Evan Rachel Wood rightfully received backlash for a tweet she made that brought up the late Kobe Bryant's 2003 sexual assault case with her outright calling him a rapist (even though the criminal charges against Kobe were dropped because his accuser refused to testify and that her undergarments had DNA samples from different men) despite the fact that he just died in a helicopter crash along with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others. This also makes Tracey and Evie's views on black boys much harder to watch.
** The above mentioned behavior is also uncomfortable in light of Evan Rachel Wood opening up about abuse she suffered at the hands of Marilyn Manson, claiming he'd groomed her as a teenager in a similar way to how Tracy was corrupted by Evie.

Tracy turning her life for the worse is the entire point of the film though? This entry treats it like her downward spiral was an "unintentional" trait of hers, again, it's the whole point.

It almost makes one ask after seeing all that she sacrificed, "WasItReallyWorthIt?"

Thirteen the musical:
Deleted line(s) 3 (click to see context) :
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Most viewers tend to think that this is a straightforward story about the bad girl, Evie, corrupting the good girl, Tracy, and that Evie's guardian, Brooke, is just completely clueless when she claims that it is Tracy who is having the bad influence on Evie.

I wrote that a year or two ago. I\'m not proud of it.

* Fanon: Archie/Kendra. Could be a case of PairTheSpares.
* ItWasHisSled: Evan and Patrice get together.
* JerkassWoobie: Archie manipulates people and can be kind of a jerk at times, but then you remember that he's doing it so that he can win over the SpoiledSweet Kendra and that he has a terminal illness.
** Also, Tracy andEvieEvie
* PeripheryDemographic: mostly averted, but college students and pre-teens have gotten into 13 too.
** Averted in that the show was intended to play both to kids experiencing puberty and to adults remembering it. However most adults found the plot to be tedious (which it sort of is) and most of the jokes only work from an adult perspective.
* TearJerker: Some of the lines in Get Me What I Need are pretty sad, when you remember Archie has a terminal illness.
-->Here's the problem, every minute, every second that I wait, might be too late...
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Archie and Patrice.
