This smells a lot like Opinion Myopia. I do not know the intent of whoever wrote this, but he should at least cite a positive comment about this film since many reviews are negative.

* SoOkayItsAverage: Related to the above, many viewers felt that, after looking past the most glaring problems, the movie was surprisingly well-paced and well-acted, especially in comparison to the Creator/GoldenFilms version. [[AwesomeArt The animation is also]] finely done in several places, and the Disney [[{{Expy}} copycats]] are at least less blatant than the Golden Films' characters, especially regarding Frollo. The film also drew some praise from fans of the original novel due to incorporating minor elements from the book that were not present in either the [[WesternAnimation/TheHunchbackOfNotreDameGoldenFilms Golden Films]] or [[Disney/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame Disney versions]].

SugarWiki.Better Than It Sounds was not intended to speak about Critical Backlash, or to report an Audience Reaction at all.

While the Golden Films equivalent deviated so far from the book that [[CriticalResearchFailure it essentially felt that the people involved had no familiarity with it whatsoever]], this film did a surprisingly good job of staying faithful to several lesser-known elements in the story, including the whipping scene (which was even AdaptedOut of the Disney version) while still remaining family-friendly, and even includes some of the book's religious themes, though not to the same extent as the big-screen or live-action versions. * BetterThanItSounds: believe it or not, this movie is actually really fun and well-made. * StrawmanHasAPoint: At the beginning of the film, Frollo is immediately made out to be a monster (one of the priests even calls him so). However while he is much more villainous later in the movie, Frollo's biggest crime in the beginning was telling the church staff that they would have to pay taxes to Frollo if they wanted to keep his protection. Yes, it's clear that Frollo's a rude asshole even from the start, but he's not entirely in the wrong for wanting the church staff to give money to the state, like everyone else. Not helping the good guys' case is that no where is it stated that they do give money to the state (in fact, quite the opposite is implied)and, the priest's don't even bother to fully pay attention to Frollo as he's talking to them!

** Despite getting into trouble the last time he left the church, Quasimodo's plan the second time he goes is putting on only his hood(No mask this time) and saying that he'll be very careful. Which leads to him getting in trouble again.
** Quasimodo also never uses his healing powers on himself after he's been flogged. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that they don't give a reason why he doesn't do that.
