Funny, but no. This is for tropes or characters, not films. And despite having a vaguely similar plot when summarized as sparsely as possible, the two films have very little in common.

* DistaffCounterpart: Hear this out. For these two films, the tone, plot, and context are admittedly and wildly different, and one is the better part of twenty years older than the other. But their main characters as played by Creator/LiamNeeson and Creator/TomHanks are both grieving widowers, are both [[YouCantFightFate struggling against the inevitability]] of a final confrontation with their films’ antagonists (a vicious man-eating alpha wolf in the former, Meg Ryan in the latter) who are patiently stalking them, and each film’s central conflict [[BolivianArmyEnding remains unresolved]] when the credits roll. Within their respective sections of the American audience, they’re quietly popular and are often described as sleeper hits. The Grey is basically Film/SleeplessInSeattle for guys.

* FridgeBrilliance:
** We never see the [[spoiler:much hyped "Liam Neeson vs. a wolf" showdown]] at the end of the film, and only get a glimpse of its aftermath after the credits. However, it's possible that the filmmakers intentionally didn't show it, because nothing they could film could possibly live up to the hype. Thus, the viewer is left to imagine how awesome it was, and come up with their own versions of it.
** It's the middle of winter and there's no fire or other means to stay warm. Hypothermia would have set in within minutes after [[spoiler:Ottway]] crawled out of the river... and it quite possibly did. [[spoiler:Ottway]] took off his heavy jacket after getting out of the river, and in later scenes he's not wearing his hat or gloves either. One of the symptoms of severe hypothermia is a false sense of warmth, in which many sufferers take off various layers of clothing (called paradoxical undressing). This is responsible for a large amount of hypothermia-related deaths. [[spoiler: Since we don't really get a good shot of Ottway after his fight with the Alpha, it's very possible that he won but died of hypothermia soon after.]]

This isn\'t YMMV. Moving.

* ArtisticLicenseBiology: [[NeverTrustATrailer The film's trailers, at least,]] do a very poor job of giving the impression that the writers understand real wolves[[hottip:*:Perhaps explaining the protests by animal rights advocates.]], which are known to be skittish around fire and humans, whether or not they've encountered them before. It's handled better in the actual film, where it's revealed that the survivors were treading very close to the wolves' den -- the cause of most violent wolf encounters in RealLife.
