Sure he's a violent jerk to almost everyone but not only does he witness most of his friends and coworkers die (especially Talget who he tried to save and ended up breaking his ankle), he himself decides to be left behind and is presumably eaten by wolves. And the entire reason why he decides to do so? Besides his bad leg, he simply doesn't feel the reason to survive/live anymore. To make this worse when Ottway makes a shrine out of the wallets of everyone else who died he opens Diaz's wallet to find no pictures of loved ones like everyone else's. The only thing in his wallet is his drivers license. In short, Diaz was a scared and lonely man so considering that and what he had to go through until his death it's hard not to feel sorry for the poor guy. |
