* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The efforts to evacuate Thanta Zilbra and Bovo Yaga only get a couple of pages of exposition. They could have added more urgency to stopping the super weapon and provided a bit of color by going into the AllThereInTheManual backstories of those planets.

Narm is for specific moments only, this entry is too general.

* {{Narm}}: The fact that a pro-human fascist organization has the same name as a 1980s band can be amusing to read.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The Saccorian Triad is responsible for some complex scheming that Thrackan could have never dreamed of, have slightly more layered motives than Thrackan, and have the potential for interesting interactions given how they come from three culturally different species. However, they remain largely off-screen presences while Thrackan TheScrappy gets to be the visible BigBad.

* VindicatedByHistory: The trilogy's plot and villains attracted some hardcore haters when it came out, and some fans still feel that way. However, over the years, many people have come to view the books more tolerantly due to some decent new characters (excluding the aforementioned villains), good WorldBuilding in regards to Corellia, and Centerpoint Station becoming one of the better liked super weapons in the franchise (especially given how long it sticks around for). The increasing number of dark EU books (both in ''Legends'' and the new canon) also cause some people to like how this one combines high stakes and {{Camp}} fairly well.
* WhatAnIdiot: The entire New Republic, at the very end, for simply not having Thrackan executed. He ended up returning to power ''twice,'' once during the Yuuzhan Vong War as part of the [[LesCollaborateurs Peace Brigade]], and then at the beginning of the [[Literature/LegacyOfTheForce Second Galactic Civil War]] before Boba Fett and his granddaughter ''finally'' kill him in retribution for him capturing Fett's daughter. Fantastic work, Leia.
** The protagonists' distrust of Mara. See RedHerring on the main page.

* TheScrappy: Thrackan. Even for a villain, he's hated. The fact that he [[spoiler: met his defeat at the hands of nine-year-old Jacen & Jaina and seven-year-old Anakin]] didn't exactly help to guarantee him a spot among the greatest EU villains of all time. Unlike most of his more well-regarded fellows, however, Thrackan ''did'' manage to stick around as a thorn in the heroes' side for ''years'' after these books, rather than getting killed off; he finally met his doom as the DiscOneFinalBoss of ''Literature/LegacyOfTheForce''.

* StrangerBehindTheMask: Relatively speaking. Although the group that ends up being behind everything is mentioned several times in the books, they are not an important player in the StarWars universe. Once it became apparent another force was behind the takeover, fan speculation ranged from Pellaeon or Daala (who were both still at large at that time) to the reappearance of the Ssi Ruu (essentially giving us the Yuuzhan Vong invasion plot five years earlier). The revelation of the true culprits was underwhelming.
