* UncannyValley: In general Milla seems to have a frame that's way too small. Alternate costumes can mitigate this, but it doesn't help in the animated scenes. Possibly justified by the fact that she says until the story began, she never actually ate food and used the Spirits for nourishment.

** Fans are also divided on whether Gaius is one of the best villains in the series, or way too boring and another KarmaHoudini. The differences between the original Japanese script and the english version compounds the issue.

** In the ending, Leia decided to return home and work at her families inn. When the sequel came out, this was retconned with almost no mention of this into her now being a reporter. The localization team had the benefit of the sequel being out when localizing the script, so they merely changed a bit of Leia's wording in the finale to have her say that she would be temporarily helping around the inn. This makes her job as a reporter more natural than in the Japanese version, where its mostly joked that she is now a reporter.

** If Pixiv is something to go by, Alvin/Leia is rather popular in Japan.
** Leia/Jude is also fairly popular due to their ChildhoodFriends status and the fact that as far as relationships go, it's actually a really well done one. It also helps that Jude/Milla are seen as way too much of a LastMinuteHookup by some fans.
** Jude/Alvin strongly holds its own against any other pair. (With Jude as the dominant one.)

* FoeYay: There is, or perhaps was, quite clearly ''something'' between Alvin and Presa. [[spoiler:There was. They used to date.]]

* MagnificentBastard: [[TheManBehindTheMan Maxwell]], [[WellIntentionedExtremist Lord of the Spirits]], masterminded the entire plot comfortably on his throne within the Temporal Crossroads. Distressed by the rapid death of spirits due to spyrix use, Maxwell cautioned the denizens of Elympios against it. When [[IgnoredExpert his warnings went unheeded]], Maxwell created the Schism and the second world of Rieze Maxia in hopes of keeping spirits alive on the better one. When Exodus breached the schism, Maxwell created his "daughters" Muzet and Milla, fashioning the latter to draw out Exodus and fulfill his plans unsuspected. Successfully getting rid of Exodus despite twenty years of inaction without a hitch, Maxwell was open-minded enough to listen to Jude and Milla's viewpoints and [[MyGodWhatHaveIdone changes his ways]]. Despite betrayal from Muzet and Gaius, Maxwell successfully holds them off while casting the heroes to Elmypios as a contingency. When agreements are made, Maxwell [[FaceDeathWithDignity peacefully passes on]] while abdicating his title of "Lord of Spirits" to Milla to usher in a better, unified world.

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Gaius is loved for his sheer badassery which is why he is playable in the sequel.
** The Chimeriad are all well liked, with Agria being more noticeable.
** Driselle too, many love her sweet and kind personality and her big sister attitude towards Elise and many hoped she would be playable in the sequel.

* RewatchBonus: Knowing that Teepo [[spoiler: has no will of his own and is just a voice for Elize's inner thoughts]], a lot of his earlier lines make a whole lot more sense.

* StrangledByTheRedString: Some people think Jude and Milla's OfficialCouple status was poorly handled due in large part to the fact that neither (verbally) admitted their feelings for each other. Therefore, a few people will claim they were a LastMinuteHookup.

** Alvin often lays an arm across Jude's shoulders. One of his battle quotes (mockingly) laments Jude giving him said shoulder ["Ouch, the cold shoulder~"]. There is a subverted moment of this with Jude saying he wouldn't care if [[spoiler: Maxwell had chosen a male form for himself]] to which Alvin asks "You [[BiTheWay swing both ways]]?" to which Jude only says "That's not what I meant..."

** In terms of non-bosses, if you're playing Milla's story, Fort Gandala comes a a pretty big DifficultySpike. You go from having a 5-person party to Milla fighting ''solo'', against enemies that clearly were designed to be fought with a full party. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that Milla has no healing skills, and that her charged spells are nearly impossible to pull off without someone to cover her.

** The skit where Rowen talks about how annoying cat lovers can be becomes an unintentional BrickJoke in ''Xillia 2'', where you meet Ms Kitty Cat, who acts nealy ''exactly'' the way he described.

** An NPC at Fenmont's medical school says he immagines Maxwell as a wrinkled old man with a beard. At the time, it's funny because that's nowhere near what Milla looks like, especially if you're familiar with Maxwell always looking like that in previous Tales games. [[spoiler: Then you find out she isn't really Maxwell, and the real Maxwell really ''does'' look like that.]]

** On the [[HoYay Les Yay]] side, there's Teepo repeatedly ''{{m|arshmallowHell}}otorboating'' [[BoobsOfSteel Milla]]. This may not seem that much at first, but it's eventually discovered that [[spoiler: Teepo has no mind of his own. He just voices and acts on Elize's innermost thoughts and desires, including the ones she's not consciously aware of.]] Teepo is also always the most enthusiastic about Mila growing bigger Bazongas...

** An NPC at Fenmont's medical school says he immagines Maxwell as a wrinkled old man with a beard. At the time, it's funny because that's nowhere near what Mila looks like, especially if you're familiar with Maxwell always looking like that in previous Tales games. * DemonicSpiders: From the BonusDungeon, Megistus Mandragoras. Suffer as they proceed to petrify your whole party in the blink of an eye. [[spoiler: Easily preventable by equipping everyone in your party with Korona Symbols, which grants immunity to all status ailments, except stun]].

** Milla's English voice actor has a lisp that some find annoying.
** You're unlikely to take away Elize from a battle. She is the team's resident main mage that can attack and heal, and she's very good at both. Just prepare yourself to hear this nearly every time (because it's her link ability; Teepo Drain).

** The fact that each character in a chat if you don't use them in battles for a while will whine and beg you to allow them to fight pretty much every couple minutes can get VERY annoying.
** They also whine if you don't feed them enough. Geez, I thought this was a Tales game, not The Sims.

* DracoInLeatherPants: Gaius. It says alot that an overlord nearly committed genocide (immediate or otherwise) could have so many fans.

* TheUntwist: This game has a couple, especially for veteran ''Tales'' series players:
** [[spoiler:Alvin has every aspect of the Sixth Ranger Traitor trope written all over him. It's his reasons why he is one that is the main twist.]]
** A larger example is the twist [[spoiler:that Milla isn't really Maxwell, which many players figured out thanks to how often it's mentioned in-game that she is. TheUntwist is that Milla ''does'' become Maxwell by the end of the game, rather than simply staying the way she was after the original reveal is discovered, meaning that technically, she was right all along (in that ultimately, she embodied the concept of Maxwell better than Maxwell himself did by the end, if his officially bequeathing his title to her is any implication).]]
** The fact that Karla Outway from the History of Auj-Oule sidequest [[spoiler: is Gaius' sister. It's not revealed until the final part of the quest, at the very end of the game, but it's obvious to most players from the first part. And the fact she has the exact same hair and eye colour as him makes it even more obvious.]]

* CharacterShilling: A good chunk of the cast talk about how awesome and inspiring Milla Maxwell is throughout the game. One side agrees with this to various levels... [[InformedAttribute but the other side don't at all, not seeing how she deserves such praise.]]
** In Nia Khera, all the villagers worship her mere presence because she's essentially Maxwell in physical form. [[spoiler: This becomes misplaced when you find out she's not really Maxwell, just created by the real one, not that the villagers knew that]].
** Jude in particular goes on about how strong, courageous, and inspirational Milla is, and how much he wants to be with her. This is due to his [[ActionGirl admiration of her]], and his personal feelings for her.
** Rowen and the others as well, particularly during the latter half of the game where they talk about the various ways she's inspired them, and how they feel motivated whenever she's with them. At one point, Leia even confides in Milla that she was trying to be more ''like her'' [[spoiler: because she was jealous of Jude's attraction to Milla]], the latter point going over Milla's head however, which makes Leia wonder if she's worrying for nothing.
** Wyverns [[MemeticMutation bend the knee]] to her when they first see her [[spoiler: for absolutely no reason at all]], something that is impossible for humans [[spoiler: and raises FridgeLogic once the game's major twist is revealed.]]
** Even the game's villains, with Gaius expressing his admiration for Milla's conviction, [[VillainRespect despite being on opposing sides with her.]] So does Muzet, though some of her remarks about Milla are [[BitchInSheepsClothing laced with veiled sarcasm.]]
*** Speaking of Gaius, he's complimented by everyone in the party even though some of his ruling strategies seem archaic and shortsighted at best. They're still complimenting even after he's threatened their lives multiple times, and eventually escalates to [[spoiler:nearly [[KillThemAll committing]] [[InferredHolocaust genocide]]]].
