* CompleteMonster: [[EvilOverlord Dakuryon]] is the {{sadist}}ic Archdevan Imperator in the continent of Northern Arun. He, along with other Archdevan mages, uses brutal BloodMagic experiments to create barely sapient grotesque abominations known as demokrons from creatures that were unfortunate enough to fall into the hands of the Archdevans. During the Fate of Arun arc, Dakuryon establishes himself to the player by abducting High Eldar Verikam in [[TheShangriLa Highwatch]]. Later in the arc, Dakuryon ambushes Zolyn, taking special interest in her as she is able to partially resist his restraining magic. Dakuryon taunts her about how he experimented on and killed her sister Zyona, before abducting Zolyn. After the player enters Dakuryon's sanctum in Arx Umbra, Zolyn is revealed to be transformed into a demokron by Dakuryon's magic, warping her mind and body and forcing her to kill her crewmate Paesyn. The player is then forced to fight Zolyn, who begins begging the player to put her out of her misery.

* NoYay: People who hate the Elin race definitely sees them as this as even though they're ReallySevenHundredYearsOld, they still physically look very much like young girls with HartmanHips even though in reality, [[RealityEnsues little girls don't have hips and proportions like those]].

** As further proof, the Japanese localization team requested for a "Swimsuit" costume for the Elin race to the director, the director just went on to do their request without expecting anything good happening. The result? The revenue gained for the Elin swimsuit costumes alone exceeded the total number of revenue gained from the swimsuit costumes from [[HolyShitQuotient ''all the other races combined'']]. This has resulted in the "Elin saved Terra" MemeticMutation and why the game became so profitable even when going Free-to-Play. With the release of the Maid costumes later on (which is one of the big hits in Japan), it only further cemented the status of the Elins as ''the'' most loved race in the entire game. No contest.

* FetishFuel: One of the biggest reasons of why the Elin race has quiet a number of haters. Not only are they the most {{Animesque}} of all the races in the game but it seems they have been deliberately designed to induce as much MaleGaze as possible [[NoYay despite being ''very young-looking'']]. Even when it is stated in-game that they are ReallySevenHundredYearsOld and is much wiser than the other races, this still puts off a lot of people (particularly, in the west). Couple this with the fact that Elins have a lot of [[TheTease very sensual movements and animations]] like they're expert porn stars, and you got a character that can deliberately induce UnfortunateImplications.

** [[EldritchAbomination The Argons]]. Jesus Christ, just THE ARGONS! They're like aliens from another planet who is hellbent on conquering the entire world similar to the Burning Legion in the {{Warcraft}} series and is only held back because of the constant interference of the Valkyon Federation. The prologue chapter alone establishes them as this as they mercilessly destroyed a village and kidnapped children in order to forcefully put them to sleep so that they can "See what they see". And it gets worse. They can infect and turn ANYTHING into their own kind - humans, animals, plants, the water that you drink, and even the ground you walk on!

** A lot of monsters fall to this. Special mentions goes to the monsters in Poporia region as the bloodfiends and the Vampirs.

* FetishFuel: One of the biggest reasons of why the Elin race has quiet a number of haters. Not only are they the most Animesque of all the races in the game but it seems they have been deliberately designed to induce as much MaleGaze as possible [[NoYay despite being ''very young-looking'']]. Even when it is stated in-game that they are ReallySevenHundredYearsOld and is much wiser than the other races, this still puts off a lot of people (particularly, in the west). Couple this with the fact that Elins have a lot of [[TheTease very sensual movements and animations]] like they're expert porn stars, and you got a character that can deliberately induce UnfortunateImplications.

* BrokenBase: Yeah, an MMO as popular as this tends to make polarizing decisions...:
** Thanks to the Reaper class being limited to just the Elin race (while also requiring a level 40 character to even create one in the first place), there are players that feel like the Elin get too much attention from the developers and don't believe that the InUniverse reason for ''why'' only the Elin can become Reapers is enough of a justification for the class to be race locked.
** Similarly, more classes were eventually released, and like the Reaper class, were ''also'' locked to specific race and gender combinations. The fact that the new classes have been [[GameFavoredGender locked to female characters]] is either seen as progressive[[note]]''TERA''[='s=] one of the few [=MMOs=] that gives female characters first priority when it comes to new classes.[[/note]] or pandering and/or annoying, particularly among players who prefer to play as male characters.
** Quite a few of the costumes available for players to purchase have a strange effect on the female Amani (and only them): these costumes have a tendency to make the female Amani's normally tree trunk-like legs (that end in what are basically clawed "elephant" feet) into [[FanservicePack much more slender, feminine-looking legs]], which ends up making them look [[UncannyValley odd]]. Needless to say, this caused some amount of backlash, especially from fem!Amani players.
** Implementation of xigncode3 as an anti-cheat broke it further. [[RuleofCautiousEditingJudgement Please leave it at that.]]

Otherwise, people are generally more aware of it as a ridiculously sexy-looking game where the majority of the female characters wear ''[[UpToEleven really]]'' {{Stripperific}} outfits.

* SpiritualLicensee: This game is considered the closest thing to a ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline'' MMORPG.

** Similarly, more classes were eventually released, and like the Reaper class, were ''also'' locked to specific race and gender combinations. The fact that the new classes have been [[GameFavoredGender specific to female characters]] is either seen as progressive[[note]]''TERA''[='s=] one of the few [=MMOs=] that gives female characters first priority when it comes to new classes.[[/note]] or pandering and/or annoying[[note]]According to those who believe that the reason female characters are given priority is due to large amount of female characters already in the game, and thanks to internet perceptions (and the game's RuleOfSexy nature), there are players that believe there are more [[{{GIRL}} guys]] [[CrossPlayer playing female characters]] than [[ThereAreNoGirlsOnTheInternet girls]].[[/note]]. Needless to say, this also bothers players who prefer playing male characters over female ones, and has also caused the perception of Elin bias mentioned above to shift into general gender bias.

[[spoiler:Thulsa is the biggest example. Despite being the main antagonist of the story his divine form only has standard crab BAM melee attacks. His [[TheDragon right hand woman]] Akasha and later ally Killian at least have unique wipe moves.]]
