** [[ManiacMonkeys The original Mandarin]] was the original leader of the Hyperforce, and the one who [[spoiler:inadvertently turned their kindly creator, the Alchemist, into the malevolent [[BigBad Skeleton King]]]]. [[GoodIsNotNice Even as a hero]], Mandarin was a sadistic bully who at one point had his younger sister, Nova, participate in a torturous "training exercise" that entailed Nova being subjected to worsening sub-zero temperatures by Mandarin, who could be heard giggling at the obvious pain and discomfort that he was causing Nova. Eventually concluding that he was better than everyone else, Mandarin [[FallenHero turned to evil]] and attempted to conquer Shuggazoom, only to be defeated and imprisoned by the rest of the Hyperforce, who replaced him with [[KidHero Chiro]]. After escaping from custody, Mandarin enslaves everyone in Shuggazoom City, captures the Hyperforce, and tries to tempt Chiro to his side by telling him that WeCanRuleTogether. Later allying with the Skeleton King, Mandarin abducts and rips off the head of Chiro's robot girlfriend, Jinmay, and [[MindRape psychically tortures]] Chiro into revealing the whereabouts of the missing Hyperforce, who he also mentally tortures in an attempt to destroy their wills and turn them into mindless servants of himself and the Skeleton King. In his final appearance, Mandarin attempts to create a perfect clone of Chiro. After Chiro destroys his replicator, Mandarin has all of the remaining imperfect clones merge together to form a massive BlobMonster that he orders to devour every living thing on Shuggazoom.

** On the surface, [[EvilOldFolks Ma and Pa Sheenko]] appear to just be the kindly old owners of Shuggazoom City's arcade, but in reality the two are the leaders of the Skeletal Circle, an ApocalypseCult made up of Shuggazoomians who have sworn allegiance to the Skeleton King. In the past, the couple [[AbusiveParents offered their daughter]], Valeena, to the Skeleton King, who tainted her with his evil, turning her into the wicked Skull Sorceress. After the Skeleton King was killed, the Sheenkos stole his skull so that they could take its power for themselves and pick up where the Skeleton King left off by raining destruction down on the universe, [[GenocideFromTheInside starting with their own "pathetic" home world of Shuggazoom]]. Ma and Pa unleash worsening supernatural disasters on Shuggazoom City, and when a vagrant stumbles onto one of the Skeletal Circle's underground chambers, he is strung up and left to be EatenAlive by giant rats summoned by Ma and Pa. Before using the Skeleton King's power to [[OneWingedAngel mutate themselves into demons]], Ma and Pa ask their daughter to join them, and when she refuses, they attack her while declaring that she will suffer along with everyone else on Shuggazoom.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: While Jinmay gets the {{Scrappy}} treatment from one side of the fandom, she gets the EnsembleDarkHorse treatment from the other.

* JerkassWoobie: Clone Mandarin. C'mon, the guy gets his arm CUT OFF (on camera, no less!), is eaten alive by a giant worm-shaped incarnate of pure evil, starves, becomes undead, and eventually goes absolutely batshit insane in said worm, is later TORTURED for information for the whereabouts of his dead master's skull (again, on camera), and is then forced to become a pet-slave, which for someone with his {{pride}}, is a FateWorseThanDeath.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The theme used at the very end of the first season finale. Variations also include the music at the end of "I, Chiro". Even more epically, the music used when we first see [[spoiler: Antauri as the silver monkey]] (complete with lightning crashing behind him) and all variations on that theme.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: [[InsignficantLittleBluePlanet Earth]] is only ever seen once, in the present, and it's never stated whether or not the humans seen on Shugazoom and elsewhere originally came from Earth, or what. (Not to mention if the governments of Earth in this universe are aware of the aliens outside the planet and their battles.)

* HilariousInHindsight: In PowerRangers2017 movie, when the Rangers finally enter their Zords, a cord connects to their suits and allows for them to link up and control their respective Zords...Exactly like the Monkeys (Well, the port connects with their heads, not their backs, but details)

* [[CrapsaccharineWorld Crapsaccharine]]/CrapsackWorld: Despite the whimsical moments of the show, the setting of SRMTHFG can appear this way. Shuggazoom City is essentially the only city on Planet Shuggazoom with anything resembling a peaceful environment when compared to the rest of the planet that's filled with monsters, deadly environments and evil forces. Not to mention the occurrence of malevolent/insane residents of Shuggazoom attempting to destroy the city or who happen to be worshipers of the [[BigBad Skeleton King]]. [[spoiler: TurnedUpToEleven when it's said that multiple planets across the cosmos including Shuggazoom house ancient [[EldritchAbomination cosmic monsters]] that will essentially destroy anything they come across when awoken. The Hyperforce and a small regiment of allies seem to be the only forces that are attempting to fight against an overwhelming wave of evil sweeping the cosmos.]] The series is essentially LovecraftLite, and without the Hyperforce the show would basically be a CosmicHorrorStory.
** There's also the part where [[FridgeHorror Galactic Smash]], a game based around ''destroying planets'' to earn ''individuals'' extra lives, seems to be ''totally accepted'', or at least currently ongoing and unstopped, with only ''one player'' (the ''second best'' one) eliminated by the Hyper Force.
** However, it's also shown that there are is at least one if not many successful galactic civilization(s) the heroes are either a small part of or know little about (as seen in episodes like "Girl Trouble", "Big Lug", and even "Prototype"). There are also indications other worlds may also have their own protectors, such as the Frog Team, and there are a fair amount of [[HeroOfAnotherStory Heroes of Another Story]] shown (the Frog Team again, Slingshot/Prometheus Five and his hunt for [[spoiler: Maezono]], Olliana and the survivors of Arcadia, etc.). Shuggazoom may even be seen as small or backwater, and it may be sheer obscurity (or a lack of unity and large military forces among the cosmos) that's letting the Dark One Worm get away with its rampage.
** It's also shown to have benevolent as well as malevolent PowersThatBe, and has not yet been utterly mauled by the Dark Ones (suggesting either that most of them have not yet awakened, or have been dealt with) so it could be argued to be more of an AdventureFriendlyWorld, with its greatest flaw being a lack of unity across the cosmos, and a reliance on heroes to stop evil.

** And that's not even mentioning [[BloodSport Galactic Smash]], where players compete to ''destroy planets'' - inhabited or otherwise - [[ImmortalityImmorality in order to earn extra lives.]] Although one of the two best players was defeated and [[spoiler: [[KilledOffForReal permanently killed]]]] by the Hyperforce, his [[TheRival rival]] and the rest of the top 10 are [[FridgeHorror still at large]]...
** However, (a variation of) the Anthropic Principle (the real life theory, not the trope) suggests that either the [[spoiler: Skeleton King Worm]] is the ''first'' [[spoiler: Dark One]] to be unleashed, or at least, any others have not dealt galaxy- or universe-threatening levels of damage, since we do not hear of any others. Furthermore, the ''abundance'' of HeroOfAnotherStory characters we run into (like Olliana, Mobius Quint, the Super Robot Amphibian Team from "Battle Brothers", the sisters from "Girl Trouble"), as well as the signs of galaxy-spanning civilization we see during the [[spoiler: Dark One]] Pursuit arc (the truck stop housing the Lug, the space station(s) from "Girl Trouble", the various AdventureTowns - ''almost none of whom have heard of the Hyperforce'') suggest that the universe is ''much'' bigger than Shuggazoom and the Hyperforce's "sector", and makes the idea that they are the only ones who could stop a [[spoiler: Dark One]] attack/release somewhat laughable (although they're certainly among the best if not ''the'' best choices to do so, since [[spoiler: the one Dark One we see released]] destroyed several worlds [[OffscreenVillainy offscreen]]). Also, the Commodore going after Shuggazoom in the first place, as well as some of his dialogue, suggests that other planets have their own defences, even if they're not as powerful and competent as the Hyperforce. These factors would seem to keep it in LovecraftLite territory.
*** And then the ending of "Wormhole" implies there's benevolent PowersThatBe, and the ''very fact'' that ''reality exists'' suggests that ''something'' is opposing the [[spoiler: "vile force designed to destroy all reality"]]...

A superhero bringing back the cliche of [[UnderwearOfPower wearing his underwear on the outside]], a supposed [[MsFanservice fanservice girl]] who actually dresses modestly and never has any kind of WardrobeMalfunction, and a teenage boy who wears [[BowtiesAreCool a bowtie]] with [[WhoWearsShortShorts booty shorts]] and [[WhiteGloves Mickey Mouse gloves]]. What else is there to say?!
