* CommonKnowledge: Cosmo's plant-like race is near-universally [[FanNickname referred to by fans]] as the "Seedrians", to the point where many less-informed fans believe it's their official name. In actuality, the name of her race is never revealed.

* AmericansHateTingle: Chris Thorndyke [[TheScrappy is far more hated in the West]] [[BaseBreakingCharacter than in Japan, where more fans like or at least tolerate him]]. Ironic, since Eggman's TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to him (widely seen as a TakeThatScrappy moment) is harsher in the Japanese version than the English one.

* TheScrappy: Chris Thorndyke is '''hated''' by ''Sonic'' fans for being a one-man SpotlightStealingSquad in the first two seasons, as he intrudes on the roles of certain characters during arcs based on ''Sonic'' games that were moments that allowed the characters to show their HiddenDepths, and for constantly taking up most of the screen time in the episodes at the expense of Sonic and his friends despite him not being the titular character or being an interesting character in general to make up for it, not to mention the fact that he basically [[DemotedToExtra replaces Tails]] as Sonic's best friend. Fans also found Chris to be an unrelatable character given his wealthy life style and successful family members that pretty much contradict his AudienceSurrogate status, as well as his forced LonelyRichKid status that makes him look more like an InformedLoner. He also had criticism relating to his dependency on Sonic, which was unfortunately so bad to the point where he kept Sonic from returning home to stop their worlds from being frozen in time. Adding to the fact that he's simply a CanonForeigner, he serves as the prime example for why fans of animated shows based on game series don't like (young) characters added to the main cast.

** Knuckles, especially with how he's belittled, made fun of, treated as an idiot and his friends using his Master Emerald behind his back in Season 3. Speaking of which...

* AmericansHateTingle: Chris Thorndyke is far more hated in the West than in Japan, where more fans like or at least tolerate him. Ironic, since Eggman's TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to him (widely seen as a TakeThatScrappy moment) is harsher in the Japanese version than the English one.

* SoBadItsGood: Several of the English 4Kids cast choices are... questionable to say the least that it can be difficult to not laugh at how several of those choices (see WhatTheHellCastingAgency for more).

* WhatTheHellCastingAgency: Several of the cast choices of the English dub didn't sit too well with fans.
** Kathleen Delaney's performance as Rouge got a good deal of flack for [[VocalDissonance making the character sound older than she was]]. Rouge is about 18. She sounds like she’s in her 30s.
** Rebecca Honig's performance as Cream is considered to be the dub's worst casting choice due to some fans finding her voice sounding way too shrill and breathy.
** Creator/JasonGriffith was one of the cast members of the dub that got hit with the most flak from detractors of the dub's voice cast for his performance as Sonic, though it had mostly to do with him replacing Ryan Drummond rather than his performance since Drummond at the time was ''beloved'' for his performance as the character in the games, and Sega's decision to recast the voices for the characters in the games with the 4Kids cast starting with ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog'' added even more fuel to the fire for Griffith as he stated in an interview that he got a lot of pan mail with some of them telling him to commit suicide.
** Amy Palant had gotten some flak for her performance as Tails due to making him sound more like a girl and less like a boy, though she did manage to make Tails sound more boyish later on particularly in Season 3.

* ClicheStorm: Like ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes'', this anime follows the typical {{shonen}} anime tropes to a degree, particularly with how [[HairTriggerTemper Knuckles]] and [[{{Yandere}} Amy]] are portrayed, as well as the frequent MonsterOfTheWeek formula particularly in season 1.

** It has an even larger following in Russia, to point where fans there consider it as a SarcedCow.

** The quality of the anime itself. Some fans claimed that the English dub ruined it, and the show is actually good in the first place. Other argued the fact that [[AudienceSurrogate Chris']] status as spotlight stealer at the expense of Sonic and friends screen time proved that the show's already bad without some {{Bowdlerization}} from 4Kids. Others think Chris is annoying, but that the show is still enjoyable due to the video game characters (with the exception of Sonic) getting a good amount of screen time to save it, or alternatively claim him to be just one of ''many'' problems it has.

** The English dub by Creator/FourKidsEntertainment. Some decry it for its {{Bowdlerization}} like the censorship of character deaths, the [[DubInducedPlotHole Dub Induced Plot Holes]] created by the characters' deaths being censored, and making the emotional moments less impacting compared to the Japanese version. Others think that it's still one of 4Kids' better translations due to its solid English voice cast, for producing the show's most memorable lines, its writing making the {{Broken Aesop}}s less {{Anvilicious}} and making some of the emotional moments still impactful, and handling some of the characterization better than the Japanese version (particularly regarding Chris).

** Sonic. This version of the character is either liked for being in-character with the games where he's a cocky [[TheTrickster trickster]] who has really well done interactions with characters, or disliked for being a FlatCharacter who does nothing but be a LazyBum whenever he's not fighting his enemies. There's also his [[OutOfFocus lack of prominence in most of the episodes despite being the main character]], and when he ''is'' on screen he tends to be an InvincibleHero who makes the narrative stakes feel non-existent.

** Dark Oak. He's an EvilGenius with a BadassCape and a BadassBaritone, who managed to outsmart both Sonic and ''Shadow''.

* FanPreferredCutContent: There's a VocalMinority of people who would have loved it the show followed the original pilot's direction and took place in a WorldOfFunnyAnimals much like most previous adaptations.

** Rouge is known for using seduction as a weapon. When she participates in a tournament for a Chaos Emerald, she fights Tails who's stronger than expected. She wins by kissing him and then throwing him out of the ring. In the 2000s, it might sound like a funny scene. In the 2020s, with the advent of MeToo and society's growing aversion to pedophilia, it doesn't sound so funny anymore.

** Even though the show doesn't intend it, Shadow tries to murder Cosmo because [[spoiler:she's a sleeper agent]], and [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown tearing through the entire crew]] without even explaining why.

** Rouge crosses it during episode 64 when she tries to get Chris to give her the two Chaos Emeralds he stole from Eggman and then lets him fall from a great distance when he refuses. Had Knuckles (who was close by) not caught him, the bat would`ve sent Chris plummeting to his death then and there.

* ValuesDissonance: In Episode 10, there's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWBYgWAdM9k&list=PLKiOTCkIBBMB39eNIsg87nWlf5xNj_Uae&index=24 a bit]] where Cream takes Chuck's advice and gives a LoveConfession to one of Eggman's robots, causing it to balk. In Japan, this is just a harmless bit of comedy, whereas overseas a six year old girl being romantically involved with anyone is considered a source of {{Squick}}, regardless of the circumstances. The [=4Kids=] version cut the scene short and changed it to Cream politely asking the pitcher to go easy on her, which is one of the few changes agreed to be for the better.

** "I was just about to consume this delicious banana!"[[labelnote:Explanation]]A particularly Narmful line of Eggman's, made even worse by the extremely LimitedAnimation of him eating said banana. The entire scene (which 4Kids didn't pick up on, funnily enough) is a staple of WebAnimation/{{YouTube Poop}}s.[[/labelnote]]
