* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Shinjiro]] is the mastermind behind the Jackal Gang and Katakara and the annihilation of the Kusaragi Clan. Desiring the ancient [[MacGuffin Gale Sword]], Shinjiro caused the genocide before the events of the game and turned the entire area into a ghost town filled with only bandits and other criminals. Learning the key to his desired prize was with the TheHero, Shinjiro had him hunted down and took whatever measures it would take to kill him in order to fulfill his ambition, including letting many of his men die from either the Hero, or by his own hands when he abandons them to save himself from the Hero. Seeing his two allies [[CoDragons Payne and Okaji]] killed by the one he desires dead, he didn't care one bit, and continued his quest for the sword, which includes taking the Hero's friends hostage, and forcing his own ally to betray the Hero. When the Hero finally got to kill this ruthless bandit leader, he taunts the Hero, claiming more will be after him. Despicable enough to do anything for the precious Gale Sword, Shinjiro left the once thriving desert into a wasteland full of the worst of the worst.

* ThatOneSidequest:
** The wanted poster sidequests can be a bit tough because they might blend in with the intentionally drab CattlePunk environments.
** Hope you have a BladderOfSteel to score a gold medal in challenge mode for Rattlesnake Canyon. It's a [[MarathonLevel long, long, level]] and that doesn't help matters when AutoSave is disabled in challenge mode, meaning that you must complete a chapter in one sitting.

* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: The first game was very much hit-and-miss, with extremely finnicky controls. This sequel does away with all that by capitalizing on the Wii [=MotionPlus=] and many critics found a lot to like about it.

So Cool Its Awesome is a fanspeak term that doesn't get wicks. And trope entries don't get doubled up, and since this is zero-context anyway, away it goes.

* SoCoolItsAwesome: All of the Hidden Moves and Powers. Some of the cooler ones include The Eagle, which knocks enemies fifteen feet in the air allowing you to either pump them with lead or jump up above them and deliver a MeteorMove and The Bear, which causes a tremor that knocks nearby enemies to the ground.
* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel[=/=]EvenBetterSequel: Fans are split whether the game is an example of the former or latter.

* GameBreakingBug: As pointed out in [[http://videogamegeek.com/thread/630889/plight-of-the-kusagari this review]], some copies of the game have bugs that can wipe out save data and require you to reset the chapter, wiping out an hour or more of progress.

* AnticlimaxBoss: The final fight in your rematch with Shinjiro is really easy. You can perform the Tiger on him and kill him with a few shots from your upgraded rifle.

Added DiffLines:

* GameBreaker: The Tiger. This even works on bosses, making the difficulty drop like a rock for the whole game.

Added DiffLines:

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: It's clear they were trying to do more with the plot, but it feels really barebones for the most part. [[spoiler:Not only do you never find out why you were banished from your clan, but the characters are mostly flat and what little exposition there is doesn't really do much for the story.]]

* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel:The sequel is a paragon of this trope. By throwing out everything from last game, and building it from the ground up for the Motion+, and by not rushing it this time, the sequel has turned this series from utter crap into a great example of Wii games done right.
* EvenBetterSequel: The first RedSteel was awesome, almost everything a Wii FPS should be, though not nearly as good as say, TheConduit, it was still a very decent game with a better two-player system than a lot of games. It was left to rot by bad reviews given by people by people who thought the controls would be different than they were, but didn't complain when every subsequent FPS used the same controls, and helped to it's tomb of Undeserved Mediocrity by gamers [[ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch complaining about games they've never played.]] At the same time, there can be no denial that the sequel was far better, especially with the more colorful, exciting environments and protagonist and MUCH more extensive use of swordplay, which in the first game was regulated to certain bosses and minibosses.
