* HarsherInHindsight: The owner of the murdered dog has a rant about hardly anyone in the neighborhood really communicates with one another or seem to care about each other and how her dog was "the only thing that ever liked anybody!" Fast forward about 60 years and people have more distractions from genuine human communication (esp. neighbors).

* JustHereForGodzilla: To see [[TheCameo Ross Bagdasarian (Sr.)]] aka [[Franchise/AlvinAndTheChipmunks David 'Dave' Seville]].

* SpecialEffectFailure: [[spoiler: Jeff falling out of the window looks unmistakably like a chroma key effect.]] Plus, when everyone runs out into the courtyard to see this, it seems pretty obvious that they filmed the scene at normal speed and sped it up in post.

* MagnumOpus: Jimmy Stewart called this his favorite of the four movies he did under Alfred Hitchcock, and it also seems rather popular among Hitch's fans-Website/RottenTomatoes gives it a 100% Certified Fresh rating.

* MetaTwist: Unlike many other Hitchcock movies, the plot is entirely straightforward.
* NotSoDifferent / ShadowArchetype: There is a theory floating around that Miss Torso and Miss Lonelyhearts are this to Lisa. This isn't so far-fetched when you consider that many of the movements Miss Lonelyhearts makes are similar to Lisa's in the same scene and that Lisa empathizes with Miss Torso fending off advances of "wolves."
** Plus the possibility that Jeff and Lisa's relationship might not work out. Lovely and charming as she is, Lisa might end up just as lonely as Miss Lonelyhearts.
* RoleAssociation: The husband of the couple whose dog Thorwald killed was played by Frank Cady, who's best known for his role as Sam Drucker in three 1960s sitcoms, ''Series/PetticoatJunction'', ''TheBeverlyHillbillies'' and ''GreenAcres''.
** Thorwald is Series/PerryMason.
** The songwriter is played by Ross Bagdasarian, yes [[WesternAnimation/AlvinAndTheChipmunks THAT]] Ross Bagdasarian.
** Fans of {{MST3K}} might recognize Jeff's policeman friend as the Chief of [[AgentForHARM H.A.R.M.]]
