* GeniusBonus: The bit about the High Energy Magic Building says the senior wizards may regret not paying attention when their juniors build that thing in the squash court. This is a reference to the world's first nuclear reactor, which was built in the squash court of the University of Chicago. The reference gets more direct when they ''do'' in fact build the thing in ''Literature/TheScienceOfDiscworld'', and it is indeed the magical equivalent of a nuclear power station.

ZCE and This Troper.

* {{Macekre}}: Inverted. According to WordOfGod, someone once claimed to him that the book was somehow actually ''better'' in the German translation. Any German speakers who have read both versions, elaboration would be welcome!
** This troper would disagree about the "better" German version. Cases in point would be the general problem with translating wordplay, which is a major point of Sir Pratchett's work, but also jarring translation issues, like translating Death as "Tod" instead of the correct German form "der Tod," as well as mixing familiar pronouns ("du") with formal modes of address ("Herr;" normally, the pronoun used with "Herr" would be "Sie").

** It seemed pretty absurd to me - until they evolved once more into the 'superstore' and started strangling small-town economies.

unfortunate implications need citations

* UnfortunateImplications: One-Man-Bucket is descended from an obvious Expys of Native Americans/Canadians who immigrated to Ankh Morpork but his main motivations are fighting and drinking.
** Granted, those are the main motivations of a lot of Morporkians whose families have been living there for thousands of years, too. (Well, apart from making money, but ghosts don't have much use for cash.)

* CompleteMonster: Pratchett manages the feat of making the New Death one of these with only a handful of lines. It's clear that if he hung around longer, people would have every reason in the world to fear death.
