* FridgeHorror: The reveal of the character Spike to be Skull's son raises uncomforatble questions as to when he was conceived (looks to be in his late teens) and why he wasn't even acknowledged by his dad during the time when he should have been alive. Could also be GettingCrapPastTheRadar due to the strong implication of a teen pregnancy.

* {{Woolseyism}}: The Green Ranger's element has been changed from "Wood" to "Forest", likely because it avoids possible DoubleEntendre jokes or [[RuleOfCool just sounds cooler]]. It even works with the kanji, as ''mori'' (the "forest" kanji) is pretty much a large ''ki'' (the "wood"/"tree" kanji, used in ''Shinkenger'') stacked on two smaller ki.

** Are we sure they're counting the {{recut}} as the eighteenth season, and not counting [[MightyMorphinPowerRangers Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers]] as the fourth? Because doing the later would make more sense.

** There is talk of a crossover with a certain [[KamenRiderDecade Passing Through Kamen Rider]]. When asked at the official unveiling whether they had also acquired the episodes of ''KamenRiderDecade'' that crossed over with ''SamuraiSentaiShinkenger'', WordOfGod gave a very clear "yes." (No word on whether they'll ''use'' the footage, but the option's available.)

** The promo commercials are using the [[MightyMorphinPowerRangers Original Series]] ThemeSong. Of course, there's still a possibility that they're simply using the old theme song because they don't have a new one yet.
*** The first footage from an episode would appear to confirm that the ''PowerRangersSamurai'' theme will take several cues from the beloved original theme.

** The toy designs are also receiving criticism- most understandably in the case of the Megazord, which lost a number of its details in the transition from Shinken-oh, but also for the new Ranger figures, which were given samurai-armor-esque revamps including ShouldersOfDoom.

**** The standard-looking figures are in a 5-figure set with all five Samurai Rangers and all-black versions of their unique weapons. They're out at the start of the toy line too.
*** They removed the brushes from the Shodophone. The main gimmick is gone.
**** Can't blame them for trying to be different enough from the source. But yeah, the brush was what made the Shodophone work the way it did. I wonder how do these Rangers morph and use whatever replacement to Mojikara they have (unless they do it like Genta's Sushi Changer...).

Not a bad decision (calligraphy brushes aren't nearly as widespread in the US as they are in Japan), but it makes you wonder how they're going to incorporate the source footage into the new show.
