** The lack of applause actually had a reason: apparently the opening was made just right about everyone was entering, hence the seemingly empty cheering. There is however an actual backlash - people who are angry that Pikachu Libre got picked rather than an ''actual'' luchadore Pokémon Hawlucha.

* HypeBacklash: When Masuda teased a huge announcement at the 2015 World Championships, everyone was anticipating the reveal of a new main series game due to the unknown Pokémon showcased in the September edition of [=CoroCoro=] and TheStinger of ''Hoopa and the Clash of Ages''. Instead it was just the reveal that ''Pokkén'' would be ported to UsefulNotes/WiiU and that Pikachu Libre would be a playable character, which was viewed as nothing really exciting across most of the fanbase due to the existing expectation of the game getting a console release anyway. Every now and then, they'd pause during their speeches to allow the crowd to applause...[[FlatJoy which hardly anybody did]].

* BaseBreaker: [[WolverinePublicity Pikachu]], as per the norm due to HypeBacklash being called out whenever he is prominantly featured in a Pokémon project. * PanderingToTheBase: Judging by the first wave of footage alone, the game is clearly created for the franchise's older demographic. Not only does it feature gameplay that's about as complex as the main Pokémon [=RPGs=] or other {{Fighting Game}}s, the game also features "rougher" textures for all Pokémon that contrasts it with the rest of the franchise. The revealed roster even includes many of the "tougher" and most popular Pokémon among older fans (Blaziken, Suicune, Lucario, Gardevoir, Gengar, Weavile and Charizard) with a lot of the cuter ones in support roles, while Pikachu itself is given a personality overhaul (similar to Mario in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'') to bring it more in line with the "tough" Pokémon.
