* MisBlamed: When Pixar released the bowdlerized version of Knick Knack, a lot of people assumed that Disney, who had recently acquired the company, forced them to make the edit. The Pixar staff said that they had made that choice themselves. When they originally made it, they were a bunch of lonely computer nerds, whereas at the time of the re-release, they were men with families, no longer comfortable with having women objectified in that fashion.

* UnexpectedCharacter: ''Film/{{Condorman}}'' was one of several live-action flops from Disney in the late 70s/early 80s, and its' cheesy storyline and production values, as compared to ''Film/TheBlackHole'' or ''Film/{{TRON}}'', has left it obscure to even many Disney fans. So seeing him as one of the discarded kids' meal toys in ''Small Fry'' was a pretty big surprise.

** The water effects in ''Partysaurus Rex''.

* JerkassWoobie: The bully in ''Lou'', as it turns out that [[spoiler: he wound up becoming one after another bully stole his beloved plush bunny when he was younger, like he has been doing to the other kids throughout the short up to this point.]]

** A lot of people have admit to finding the scene in ''Bao'' where [[spoiler:the mother eats her son]] more funny than heartwrenching due to how out of nowhere it seems.
* NightmareFuel: For some people, the scene in ''Bao'' where the mother [[spoiler:eats Bao, a surrogate of ''her son'',]] before it was revealed that [[spoiler:everything was her [[AllJustADream dream]]]].

* SugarWiki/SweetDreamsFuel: '''''Piper'''''. Combined with the calm and relaxing atmosphere and setting plus the adorable main character, it's next to impossible to watch this short without feeling all warm and fuzzy inside by the end.

* ViewerGenderConfusion: Along with age confusion - while the short itself provides enough context to easily tell that the protagonist of ''Bao'' is an adult woman, the preview clip did not, leaving some to mistakenly believe it was going to be about a young boy.
* ViewerSpeciesConfusion: A non-animal example. When the preview of ''Bao'' was first released, some viewers not familiar with Chinese dumplings mistook the main character for an onion.

** ''Piper'' features photorealistic backgrounds and setpieces as in ''The Good Dinosaur'' with beautiful photorealistic animals, unlike the goofy cartoonish dinosaurs.
** The foods in ''Bao'' which looks realistically savory, and shows a large improvement from ''WesternAnimation/{{Ratatouille}}''
