[[labelnote:addendum]]And mecha fans point at those guys and yell "[[OlderThanTheyThink EVA DIDN'T EVEN DO IT FIRST, YOU SILLY!]]"[[/labelnote]]However, there are also many people who look forward to this film for it's apparently mature, fresh, well directed, and ''very'' well-funded approach to some of the tropes and themes normally only seen in mecha anime and manga.
