** The eighth movie attempts to summarize the entire Alabasta-arc in 90 minutes, and as such, ends up cutting out most of the plot-and-character development, and becoming little more than a string of fight-scenes--and not even very ''good'' fight-scenes at that.

* CharacterDerailment: While a lot of the characters in the 4Kids dub suffered from this Usopp is the prime example. He went from "lying coward who wants to become stronger and travel the world" into "one-dimensional JokeCharacter". What's that? Usopp tries to back out of a fight only to tearfully realize that he can't help his friends that way and ends up fighting by his own choice? Cut it out! You want people to take his character seriously when he isn't the butt of a joke? Give him a voice actor that makes him sound like a clown during puberty instead! There is a story arc that focuses on Usopp? [[WallBanger CUT OUT THE ENTIRE STORY ARC!]]

** Or PiratesOfTheCaribbean meets {{X-Men}}.

** As of chapter 610 some people are crying AssPull over Luffy's ability to resist being poisoned after his encounter with Magellan.

* NightmareFuel: if you look closely when [[spoiler:the Okamas are attacking the marines in chapter 602, you can see that second one (third if you count from the silhouette) from the left is seemingly eating one of the Marines (presumably) alive (either that or it's a ''hell'' of a kiss).]] Kind of puts into perspective why Sanji was so afraid of these people.

** In the non-canon anime fillers, Luffy's defeat of [[ConvectionSchmonvection Don Achino]] was easily this.

*** Everything with Crocodile. First of all, there's no way that the bomb wouldn't have killed everyone. They make what's supposed to be 15 minutes or even 15 seconds last ridiculously long. Pell's recovery is ridiculous, he flies just as fast as he normally would, though he was shot supposedly only minutes ago. But closer to the point, right after Zoro's epiphany, Mr. 1's death is ridiculous. How doesn't he get up when pretty much every other character gets up and starts running after being impaled in the chest? But even more to the point, Crocodile. How were either Luffy or Zoro on the brink of death? Luffy has the energy to speak and smile and carry the King afterwards, and Zoro runs around carrying Nami. Honestly, you don't feel bad for Vivi, who spends all of her time screaming and being weak, and you don't necessarily feel bad for Crocodile, but just pissed of at the Straw Hat Pirates. [[HackingRealLife You can just picture, imagining the One Piece world as a video game and there being the characters controlling avatars in the game, Crocodile and Luffy playing the game One Piece, and Crocodile throwing the controller at the TV after seeing how Luffy hacks the game and the Moderators doing everything, including just flat out defying the physics of the world, to make Baroque Works lose, as even his in game avatar cannot believe physically how any of what just happened happened.]] He gets injured a ton of times just out of surprise that makes sense, and then, even though more insignificant characters get up after being caught in an explosion, shot, or impaled, doesn't even get up. And they made his weakness getting wet, even though his ability is that he absorbs water. But probably the worst thing is how when Crocodile sends down the sandstorm after Luffy kicks him into the air. Since when does ducking and covering just allow you to ride the winds? This would be like if you were up against a noob, and you kill him at least 5 times, during 3 of which the admins gives the guy an ability to make you run out of ammo, and they also decide that gravity does not effect him, while you are succumbed to double the gravity, and then you are smokescreened, and even your meleeing flat out doesn't hit him, and then it turns out the guy wasn't a noob. I don't know about you guys, because I know people who were completely satisfied with his death, but I could completely understand his surprised expression as he died. I'm not saying it wasn't fair, I'm just saying if Luffy wasn't the main character, there are so many deviation points that turned out in his favor, and they even make his single victory nullify both of Crocodile's. What's the worst is how at the end his hand had already turned to sand, which means that there is no reason that he didn't turn to sand, there was nothing preventing him from doing that, except for the fact that he's the bad guy.
