** Sweetheart is a RoyalBrat who mistreats her boyfriend, Captain Spaceboy, and locks people in her dungeon for petty reasons. She is the local HateSink of the game, and is hated by many players, but said players still express a purely physical attraction to her, despite- or perhaps ''because of''- her domineering personality. It helps that the game has a photo of her in a bikini in the Orange Oasis area. Notably, when a body pillow of her (and her clone Perfectheart) was released as official merchandise, it sold out ''very'' quickly.

* ThatOneBoss: Sweetheart at the end of Three Days Left. Once her HP starts going down, she copies Space Ex-Boyfriend's gimmick and becomes ''permanently'' Happy for the rest of the fight and upgrades it as it goes on, thwarting any strategy dependent on her having any other Emotion and nullifying the attack boost you get from being Angry. Sweetheart’s worst attack is a nasty party-wide strike she uses often, and she also has a party-wide Angry-inducer, so if you can't switch emotions fast enough she'll enjoy a damage advantage while also being a lightning-fast, CriticalHit-slinging maniac. All of this can be mitigated if you got some rain clouds before [[PlotTunnel entering the Castle]], but they and most other mood-altering toys are finite in number at that point in the story. And as if that was not bad enough, she reappears in the BossRush, with all her attacks souped-up, and is so difficult that the game [[SuspiciousVideoGameGenerosity feels the need to give you]] several Life Jams (the revival item) just before her battle.

** A basic strategy that a lot of players fall back on is having Kel anger Aubrey, and Omori make an enemy Sad so that Aubrey can Headbutt them for high damage. This skill combination is available from just before you set off to Otherworld, and it's a [[BoringYetPractical basic yet reliable]] method of dealing high damage that doesn't cost a lot of Juice. Make Omori himself Sad and you can exploit the [[ArmorPiercingAttack defense-ignoring Stab]] alongside Aubrey. Those who become overdependent on this combination may not even notice that they can swap their skills around after each member learns more than the maximum of four at once, and realizing this too late can lead to crushing defeats, usually by [[ThatOneBoss Sweetheart]]'s hand.

The circumstances with Mighty Number 9 were entirely different from what seems to have happened with OMORI. It looks like people were more concerned that the game wouldn't come out at all.

* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: After six years in development, the struggle to move the game from RPG Maker VX to MV, the cancellation of the UsefulNotes/Nintendo3DS version, and the lack of communication between developers and backers, many expected the game to be the next ''VideoGame/MightyNo9'': another broken game and another Kickstarter failure that didn't deliver what it was promised. Thankfully this wasn't the case: the game came out on Christmas Day 2020, and it got a lot of positive reception from backers and players alike.

Gameplay is still widely praised alongside the story.

* EnjoyTheStorySkipTheGame: The game's few detractors tend to find its gameplay pacing to be a detriment to its story instead of an aid to it, but even they tend to see the story as touching. Given that the RPG segments are mainly focused in Headspace [[spoiler: which is meant to be an escape from reality]] and the only "big" RPG segment in Faraway Town is the [[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane possibly hallucinatory]] Recycultists, it's possibly intentional, especially since the RPG elements are expanded [[spoiler: on the Hikikomori route, where the actual main story is explicitly rejected.]]

YMMV cannot be played with, and the "skip the gameplay" audience reaction is legitimately present despite being fairly small. Also, Hero isn't much of a Ron The Death Eater; virtually all out-of-character reactions of his are played not-serious.

Made the spoiler tag less likely to reveal Mari's death early on

** Sunny's mom also sometimes gets a similar treatment. Like his dad, she is not entirely blameless - coming off as rather neglectful towards Sunny, leaving him alone in a house without power for several days with only a (possibly spoiled?) steak to eat, but her phone messages and flashback appearances seem to imply she does care for Sunny and it would be easy to explain her neglectfulness as a result of not being in the best place mentally herself. Some fanworks, such as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjtWC0Oi0e0 this video]], portray her as an outright abusive parent who wishes Sunny had died [[spoiler:instead of Mari]].

The epilogue doesn't state Basil's intentions as clearly as the fight beforehand does. Also, Mari's death should be a marked spoiler.
