* NotSoCrazyAnymore: At the time, the idea of a foreign terrorist attack on American soil was dismissed by some critics as ludicrous. Creator/SylvesterStallone himself later noted how prescient the plot was in 1993 after the bombing of the World Trade Center, and then of course 9/11 happened as well.

* WhatAnIdiot: After finally escaping from the hostage situation, albeit at the cost of Shakka, Wulfgar has a chance to hide. Instead, he decides to find [=DaSilva's=] estranged wife and kill her. This bites him in the ass hard when it turns out that [=DaSilva=] had caught on after seeing her house listed on a piece of paper at his [Wulfgar] hide out, and decided to wait for him in her home.

* EvilIsCool: Wulfgar is a monster but Rutger Hauer plays him so well and with such charisma it's hard not to enjoy him, even when he does horrible things.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Seeing Stallone cross-dressing while beating up criminals is pretty damn funny. It's also one of the few lighthearted moments that this film has, and it provides a stark contrast to the seriousness that is yet to come.

* CompleteMonster: Wulfgar. He Heymar Reinhardt, alias "Wulfgar," is a terrorist who manipulates everyone around him, him and he cares nothing for those kills the people who help him him. Even his employers don't like him, as evidenced by his offscreen murder one of Pam. He even kills them [[EvenEvilHasStandards refusing to pay him because several children were killed by his last attack at the beginning of the movie]]. He doesn't care who his actions injure or kill, even if the victims are children. He takes a frail old woman hostage at a subway, and thinks nothing of it.before that, he killed the flight attendant he was staying with after she looked in his briefcase, calmly telling her that everything was okay, before killing her offscreen. Later on, he takes more hostages, including an eight-month-old infant. The only reason that he lets the infant live is because he knows that doing so would make him seem more employable to future or potential terrorist organizations, provided he can escape his current predicament alive.

* The Music. Keith Emerson's score is rather good on the whole, but some parts, such as "I'm a Man," which plays during the nightclub scene, is good at the start with instruments, but once you hear Keith Emerson try to sing, you know that he should stick to instruments. Tragically, this music was replaced with another more generic disco piece in the Universal DVD of the film, although it was in the Goodtimes DVD. Oddly enough, the piece ''can'' be heard in the theatrical trailer on the Universal DVD. Really weird.
* In this Troper's opinion, Sly looks rather good with a beard. Just sayin'.
