Needs two or more sides

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Cadence being an alicorn had a very mixed reception, in part due to how this interferes with previous interpretations of Celestia and Luna -- before this episode aired, it was very prevalent among the fandom to interpret Celestia and Luna as the only alicorns (currently) in existence and alicorns in general as being powerful PhysicalGods. Cadance's introduction did not exactly conform very well to these headcanons, and not all the fandom was happy with this development. It doesn't help that, in this two-parter at least, her being an alicorn is pointless to the story.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call Twilight unsympathetic. See the discussion page for more.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Twilight when she's suspicious of Candence being evil is presented as her being the only one aware of her odd behavior with nopony else believing her suspicions, as well as correct for her suspicions in the end. However, while Cadence not remembering their secret hoofshake makes Twilight understandably suspicious and is revealed to be Queen Chrysalis disguised as Cadence, she had a very good alibi for her behavior towards everything as an understandably stressed bride who wants her wedding day to be perfect since they can bring out the worst in people by making them worry that something will go wrong and ruin it. Plus, Twilight refuses to listen to her friends' perspective of Cadence or hear out her brother's reason for why he didn't tell her about the wedding sooner before getting angry with him. And as the final nail in the coffin, she straight up accuses Cadence of being evil in front of everypony without any evidence to support her claim, resulting in Cadence running off in tears, Shining Armor banning Twilight from the wedding, and the rest of the Mane Six and Celestia turning their backs on her for her behavior. While Twilight turned out to be right about Cadence's odd behavior, her own behavior in this episode paints her as being [[ItsAllAboutMe self-centered]] rather than suspicious of Cadence, and Shining Armor kicking her out of the wedding isn't really unjustified since she nearly ruined a very important day for him.

* NeverLiveItDown: Fans will not let Twilight's friends, her brother Shining Armor, and Celestia calling out and ditching her after the accusation scene, with a throwaway apology from Applejack next episode. This is despite "Cadance" [[{{Bridezilla}} having an alibi for her suspicious behavior]], and Twilight being a jerk about it even before she had a reason to be suspicious, had no proof for her claims, and admitted [[RightForTheWrongReasons she was wrongly paranoid]]. Many exaggerate it as them cutting off ties with Twilight when they were simply leaving her to reflect on her actions, which would've been harmless if not for the unforeseeable Changeling invasion. This also ignores that Shining Armor was implied to have been brainwashed by "Cadance", and Twilight's friends [[FourthWallMyopia not knowing of or seeing what the audience and Twilight saw]], and "Cadance" making offscreen efforts [[PragmaticVillainy to win Twilight’s friends' trust]].

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Twilight is presented as being the only one suspicious of "Cadance's" behavior. However, while Cadance not remembering their SecretHandshake makes Twilight understandably suspicious, her own behavior throughout this episode makes her appear [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]], and Shining Armor isn't wrong in kicking her out of the wedding since she nearly ruined a very important day for him.

* FourthWallMyopia: The rest of the Mane Six and Princess Celestia turning on Twilight is heavily criticized by a significant portion of the audience. However, the viewers are only following the story from Twilight's point of view, witnessing her attitude towards her brother, all of the bride's suspicious behaviour, and flashbacks [[OutOfCharacterAlert showing somethings amiss]]. InUniverse, the others see Twilight going from irrationally angry over the wedding to borderline unhinged, displaying an unhealthy possessiveness over her brother, nitpicking every instance of poor behavior from an understandably stressed bride (since wedding preparations are ''very'' stressful for people), repeatedly blowing off her friends' concerns, and finally reducing a pony to tears via hardcore slander. If Twilight were to present solid evidence regarding Cadance's behavior calmly voice her suspicions in private, then the others likely wouldn't have dismissed her so harshly since she almost ruined the wedding.

Cadence's introduction did not exactly conform very well to these headcanons, and not all the fandom was happy with this development. It doesn't help that, in this two-parter at least, her being an alicorn is pointless to the story.

** The debate over Twilight's confrontation with the others likely would have caused the episodes to be OvershadowedByControversy if not for the action-packed payoff of Part 2. Many feel the others were in the wrong for dismissing her in spite of everything she had done by that point in the series to show she wouldn't make such an accusation baselessly, knowing Cadance well enough so that her suspicions should have been taken seriously, and their not giving Twilight a chance to explain herself more rationally. Others defend them, arguing Twilight has been known to FreakOut over the smallest problems before, [[NotHelpingYourCase her behavior throughout the episode didn’t live down her accusations of jealousy]], and she failed to give any evidence that couldn't be rationalized away (like Cadance forgetting their SecretHandShake), giving them enough to justify their dismissal. There's also those that think [[BothSidesHaveAPoint both sides were equally right/wrong]] and/or want the others to ''[[QuitYourWhining get over it]]'', since, in the long run, it's a minor plot point compared to the others that happened in the two-parter and the rest of the series.
* FoeYay: The IncestYayShipping for Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor gets more ''shippy'' after the latter calls the heroine out for saying that Cadence is evil. Watching that scene over and over again would soon make it sound like a SiblingRivalry conversation.

** Awhile back, there was a "Smug Cadence" meme which had a picture of the bride-to-be with smug face making snarky comments about her being another alicorn, her being pink, and her marrying Twilight's brother among other things. First episode airs and Cadance is shown to be very smug and snarky. In truth, the imposter was and the real deal isn't.
** During a flashback, a young Twilight Sparkle moans about how she's [[IJustWantToBeSpecial just a "regular old unicorn"]] to Cadence. This is rather ironic considering what would happen to Twilight Sparkle at [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E13MagicalMysteryCure the end of the following season]].

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Twilight when she's suspicious of Candence being evil is presented as her being the only one aware of her odd behavior, as well as correct for her suspicions in the end. However, while Cadence not remembering their secret hoofshake makes Twilight understandably suspicious, the rest of Cadence's behavior towards everything makes her come off as less of being evil and more as an understandably stressed bride who wants her wedding day to be perfect since they can bring out the worst in people by making them worry that something will go wrong and ruin it.
