* AccidentalAesop:
** If you're feeling uncertain, jealous, or downright hostile towards someone who's about to marry into your family, ''you are absolutely right'', and it's not simply a matter of you making a poor transition.
** On the other hand, Twilight is shown to be overjoyed about the marriage ''until'' Cadance misbehaves. Could be a much more valuable aesop to kids: don't ignore someone's bad behavior that occurs in private just because they make your family member happy.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Some people think that Twilight was ''[[BrotherSisterIncest jealous]]'' instead of ProperlyParanoid towards her brother.
* BrokenBase:
** Even before The Hub's premiere, a few fans called ExecutiveMeddling on this two-parter, since it concerns a frilly, girlish wedding of two characters only introduced this episode that [[RememberTheNewGuy no one has ever heard of before]] for the sake of Hasbro's marketing, while other bronies called it a fitting way to end the second season.
** Even among those that enjoyed the episode, a common adjective used to describe it is "fanfiction-y" because of the RememberTheNewGuy method of introducing Shining Armor and Cadence and latter doesn't look out of place in a Deviantart search for Alicorn [=OCs=]. You'd think with all the trips to Canterlot in season 2 Twilight would've encountered or at least mentioned her brother once, or that he'd appear in an earlier flashback, especially with how clingy she appeared to be over him.
** Cadence being an alicorn, and how this interferes with previous interpretations of Celestia and Luna. It doesn't help that, in this two-parter at least, her being an alicorn is pointless to the story.
** Fans are still divided over how much blame to assign to Twilight vs. everypony else in the hearwrenching confrontation at the end of the first part.
*** Some believe that Twilight, while perhaps not expressing herself in the best possible way, in the end was fully justified in her suspicions of "Cadance", and, compared to her friends who had only just met the bride, and her brother and Celestia who were too busy dealing with the security of Canterlot, she was the best pony to make a judgement call about whether there was something wrong with "Cadance". Everypony else simply [[AesopAmnesia forgot the aesop]] of the episode [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E3LessonZero "Lesson Zero"]], and if they had properly listened to Twilight and displayed understanding, loyalty, and trust toward their friend instead of a rude pony they barely knew, the whole mess could have been avoided. Celestia, meanwhile, should have put more stock on her faithful student's suspicions, and been more perceptive of her niece's change in behaviour. In the end, even the on-screen apology Twilight received in the second part is weak, considering what she went through, and the fact that her actions saved the day in spite of everypony blaming her earlier.
*** A second group believes that Twilight was RightForTheWrongReasons, her friends ''did'' make an attampt to discuss the matter rationally but were rudely shot down by Twilight at every turn, and ultimately what Twilight did was act like an irrational ClingyJealousGirl, throwing around wild accusations of the bride being "evil" with flimsy evidence - all of which was seemingly refuted by Shining Armor - and bringing an apparently good (if somewhat rude) pony to tears on the eve of her wedding day because she couldn't stand to see her brother get married to somepony she didn't deem good enough. Even if she ultimately turned out to be right about there being something wrong with "Cadance", her overy-emotional way of going about it was about as bad as it could get, she neglected to present the most important piece of evidence she had (the [[SecretHandshake Secret Hoofshake]] failure) and her friends, brother, and Celestia could hardly be blamed for drawing the conclusions that they did.
* FoeYay: The IncestYayShipping for Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor gets more ''shippy'' after the latter calls the heroine out for saying that Cadence is evil. Watch that scene as many times as you like. It would soon start sounding like a SiblingRivalry conversation.
%%* GeniusBonus: UpToEleven with [[http://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/sm22p/a_spoiler_in_the_song/ this]]. And WordOfGod says [[https://twitter.com/#!/dannyimusic/status/193926339043147777 yes, that was intentional.]]
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The need for increased security at the wedding seems a more eerie in light of the issues with insufficient security at the London 2012 Olympics.
*** Even more so after the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.
** ''Everything'' that happens to Shining Armor becomes this when in [[spoiler: "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E9SliceOfLife Slice of Life]]", Cadence reveals that weddings make him cry.]]
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Cadance is ironic because of Hasbro's pink Celestia's toys.
** Awhile back, there was a "Smug Cadence" meme which had a picture of the bride-to-be with smug face making snarky comments about her being another alicorn, her being pink, and her marrying Twilight's brother among other things. First episode airs and Cadance is shown to be very smug and snarky. [[spoiler: In truth, the imposter was and the real deal isn't.]]
** During a flashback, a young Twilight Sparkle moans about how she's [[IJustWantToBeSpecial just a "regular old unicorn"]] to Cadence. This is rather ironic considering what would happen to Twilight Sparkle at [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E13MagicalMysteryCure the end of the following season]].
* IncestYayShipping: Twilight is very, very, close to her brother.
* MarySue:
** [[BaseBreaker Cadance in some people's eyes.]] Her being an alicorn is the major argument for it but there are other factors common in "Pony Sues": a gradient color scheme, royalty, looked up to and admired by main characters (Twilight Sparkle has admired her since childhood), becoming adored by everypony without any effort [[spoiler: which she does once released and able to take part in her wedding preparations]], having powers not previously indicated by the show (not a major offender but it is common to such characters), and having the big day-saving scene center around her actions. On the other hand, the following episode showed that [[spoiler:she was soundly defeated by the Hive Queen and is now nigh-powerless, and also decidedly NOT any more perfect than any other character.]]
** In-universe, [[spoiler:Imposter]] Cadance is a Grade-A JerkSue; Twilight can't understand why her friends are defending [[spoiler:Imposter]] Cadance's ridiculing their passions and what her brother sees in her.
* NeverLiveItDown: A meta example. Considering the infamous MadeOutToBeAJerkass moment that happens to Twilight herself, the BrokenBase finds it doubtful to see the other Mane 6 the same way again. [[AccusationFic Fan fics]] have been made calling them out for it.
* RonTheDeathEater: Pretty extreme yes, but for [[spoiler:everyone who walked out on Twilight, some of the cynical fans have a case of NeverLiveItDown against them.]]
%%* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Cadance for some people.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: For those who are into the really obscure, [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x172zua_mlp-fim-bgm-cadence_music Cadence's leitmotif]] does bear a slight resemblance to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH4U1ID_XiE the instrumental theme from Jim Henson's "Mother Goose Stories"]].
* [[StrawmanHasAPoint Strawmare Has a Point]]: If you want a mature and dignified royal wedding reception, Pinkie being an arranger makes just as much sense as hiring [[PeeWeesPlayhouse Pee Wee Herman]] for any of the British royal weddings.
** More to the point, Cadance says Pinkie's party ideas are only suitable for a six year old's birthday party (balloons, board games, and barn dance music), and this is pretty much the ONLY type of party Pinkie seems able to put together... Perhaps Celestia wanted to have some fun like at the Grand Galloping Gala again?
** Granted, [[spoiler: the real]] Candence was shown at the end to be enjoying the games that Pinkie came up with. Given that it was [[spoiler:the imposter]] who didn't enjoy them, maybe Pinkie knew what she was doing, after all.
* TastesLikeDiabetes: Little Twilight and Cadance friendship dance.
* TearJerker: The entire ending, from Shining Armor revoking Twilight's position as Best Mare and banning her from the wedding, to her friends and mentor heartlessly ditching her, to Celestia's ice cold remark: "You have a ''lot'' to think about." [[FromBadToWorse Made all the worse]] when [[spoiler:Twilight turns out to be in the right after the fake Cadence imprisons her underground]]. Just put yourself in Twilight's place and, despite feelings of jealousy and not showing any proof when you rightfully accuse [[spoiler:the imposter]], try not to feel the pain, or in the case of the BrokenBase, utter hatred towards those who left her.
* WhatAnIdiot:
** Twilight when she straight out accuses Princess Cadence that's she evil during the wedding rehearsal. What was she expecting?
** Why Twilight's friends, family and even Celestia, of all ponies, had suddenly forgotten that Cadence had been acting like a jerk to them, and was {{Not H|imself}}erself today, especially after Twilight says that she is evil. This might be mitigated by the whole "getting stressed preparing the wedding" thing.
* TheWoobie: Twilight. ''Dear Celestia'', Twilight! Not only did her brother ditch her, but so did her friends and mentor... and then she turned out to be right!
** JerkassWoobie: She probably shouldn't have been acting jealous towards her brother in the beginning, but it still doesn't justify her being alienated.
