* FanonDiscontinuity: Twilight's [[LawfulStupid characterization]] has set records for the speed, force, and totality fans have rejected anything from the comics as canon.

to:

* FanDislikedExplanation: Twilight Sparkle explains she can't use her StoryBreakerPower to stop the the villains due to a law that princesses can't use their powers against Equestria's citizens even if they were threatening and attacking her friends and others. This was universally despised as horrifically {{out of character|Moment}} for Twilight, who had/would become the Princess of Friendship by [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E26TwilightsKingdomPart2 willing to sacrifice the only chance at saving Equestria to save her friends]], to be unwilling to do so especially over a law so arbitrary/minor [[AssPull it never came up when Twilight and the Princesses used their powers on others prior]]. Even those who felt this could have been theoretically valid balked once she used fraud and kidnapping (one of those she supposedly couldn't use her powers against) to trick them into breaking a mere properly law she was willing to use her powers over, making it so morally inconsistent it sunk whatever credibility the law had and left no reason for not just writing Twilight out of this story. Luckily the writers realized how poorly received it was and ignored it since with Twilight not hesitating to use her powers to protect others.
* FanonDiscontinuity: Twilight's [[LawfulStupid characterization]] has set records for the speed, force, and totality fans have rejected anything from the comics as canon. Not even {{Fix Fic}}s or {{Accusation Fic}} have been willing to touch upon the story.

No-one was left with that interpretation. The unanimous interpolation was this absolutely could not and did not exist/happen for those reasons.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Many who tried to rationalize the show's odd morals have concluded that the ponies' [[EasilyForgiven altruism]] has resulted in a horribly dysfunctional legal system, which forgives any lawbreaking the good guys do since it can't come up with any good provisions for dealing with truly remorseless, dangerous criminals.

* IdiotPlot: The only reason Longhorn is a threat ''at all'' is because none of the Mane Six are willing to just take him and his gang down when they're blatantly breaking the law and have wanted posters showing they're already wanted criminals. While most obvious with Twilight, it was shown in Longhorn's last appearance that Applejack and Rarity alone are capable of curbstomping his entire gang ''while'' arguing with each other.

* TheScrappy: Twilight Sparkle's characterization here is, hooves down, the single most detested thing to have come out of the comics. [[JustEatGilligan oh right]]. Response from the editor implies this was to create precedent for future stories where Twilight would be overpowered, but the fandom has since decried this as an unacceptable alternative to just [[DeusExitMachina writing her out of stories where this would be a problem]], and stopped serious complaining about the rest of the princesses on the show having limited presence do to this.

Idiot Plot requires multiple characters to be inexplicably idiots, Twilight was the only one with this problem, which was (poorly) explained. Will move criticism to other tropes.

* IdiotPlot: Well, plot point anyway. Yes, Twilight could just as easily stop Longhorn and his gang and end the story quickly. But the reason they give for her not to is utterly dumb, especially when Longhorn harms two of her friends right in front of her which is grounds for defense at best. There was honestly no reason they couldn't keep the legal land plot and still have her at least try to defend the settlement directly.
