** A few monsters are so well known that many refer to them simply by a vague, short descriptor that nevertheless pertains primarily to the referenced monster. For example, if you use the name "bird" and you're talking about the Cosmic meta, most people will know you're talking about Vanoss2099.
** Speaking of Tier-Induced Scrappies, particularly bad monsters will be given Portmanteaus of their names with... less-than-flattering terms about their viability. Again referring to the Cosmic Era, Thundercrap / Thunderkrap (Thunderkong) and Trashgon (Targon) are some of the more common variants.

not YMMV, also removing positional phrasing

* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: An unintentional and downplayed case, but the Cosmic Lindworm's description states that he has the power to end the Cosmic Era. Sure enough, once he was released, his ability to transfer his turn to another monster has brought back a number of Legendary monsters to the Cosmic meta, particularly those with powerful denial abilities hampered by their comparatively low speed.
** In the 4th chapter of the Era Sagas, while calculating information about Gregorz of Lyria, Neurofunk states that his health is 50,351. This remains true to the game's information, as Gregorz does have that exact Life stat when brought to Rank 5.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: The power of a monster in the meta is far, far separate from their power in the lore. For example, Uriel, better known as God (or at least 'the light of God'), is a support monster beaten out by, just to list a few examples, a hologram of an anime girl, an adolescent Light mage, a fish woman, and the Tooth Fairy.

* VillainHasAPoint: In the Era Sagas, Wickah is undoubtedly an evil force, especially once Corruption transforms her into Anwrikah and makes her begin serving the Lord, but she is still justified in what causes her mounting frustration - monsters keep coming to her asking for help when she already has to carry the entirety of the swamp's duties on her own and never gets offered any help in return.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: Downplayed. Some monster designs are scarier than one would expect from a game of this genre, and these monsters' descriptions often reference violence. See NightmareFuel above.

** General Nishant is the general of the Dark Forces and leader of the Dark Blades faction. A terrifying general with a nasty pet and even nastier bodyguard, he killed Samael's brother Ishamael, then resurrected him as a zombie angel loyal to him, escaped punishment by convincing Samael to join him, and emotionally abused his gravedigger Brutalizer into an angry beast. In the Doomsday Era, he tries to kill Xiron the Great for attempting to take back Arch Knight's armor, and later tries to kill Master Goldfield for attempting to stop the Barbarians for continuing their destructive path. Later serving as the main antagonist for the Blossom Era, he tries to kidnap Nereida using Elfriede, steals Atum's Armor nearly resulting in the mass extinction of the Rocky Peaks faction, uses fearmongering to convince the Fiery Forces to attack the Cardinal Forest, kidnaps Blumeria and Talika, and then frames them for the theft of the armor, even going so far as kidnap monsters for their cells, and create new soldiers for his army.

** Don Canine is the other main villain of the Metropolitan Saga and the head of The Syndicate. Striking a deal with Malair to control the plant Elektra, Don runs for mayor while airing mass amounts of misinformation that the sunlight is toxic, all the meanwhile demolishing most of Monstown and dumping the toxic remains in the Wastelands. After commissioning Dark Voltaik to deal with the angered residents of the Wasteland, Don allows his crew to steal iron from the Wasteland. Even after being exposed, Don manages to get away with it by claiming he was deceived. After which, he tried to steal the special seeds from Mr. Beast Eco in order to take credit for his actions.

** Malfeitor is one of the main villains of the Metropolitan Saga, and the father of the supervillain sorcerer Malair. Abandoning his kid since he decided to become a superhero, he later return when his son was struggling as a villain and aided him with Nebula and a plan to conquer Elektra. Assaulting the Space Defenders and sending The Frutastor after Emerald Nathura, Malfeitor tried to take over Elektra but failed. Later returning in the Galactic Saga, Malfeitor managed to get his hands on a piece of Astronite and used it to transform the already brainwashed Dusk Aura into Nuke Aura, and send her to capture the heroes and control the power grid of Elektra despite it being a suicide mission, even abusing her despite her complaints.

**Lord Nebotus serves as the main villain of the Corrupted Saga and for good reason. After stabbing Hyperia with his sword to uncover the resource known as Lutum, he started corrupting monsters to do his bidding a, ranging from invading the Light Kingdom to controlling the Eastern Kingdom, overthrowing Hell's king Barbatos and even assaulting those who would dare stand in his way. A tyrant with a god complex, Lord Nebotus would do anything to keep control.

Requires Word Of God confirmation

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The game's meta was infamous for being extremely imbalanced, with most Legendary monsters absolutely paling in comparison to more modern Legendaries. Things only got even worse upon the release of Forsakens, which were infamously hard to get, even harder to rank up, and tilted the meta heavily in their favor. Eventually, [=SocialPoint=] decided to introduce a rarity above Legendary, known as Mythic, which had even higher stats, and slowly overshadowed the Legendaries with a range of much more equal Mythics. While a few Mythics still remain much worse than others, the Mythic meta has been generally praised for being much more forgiving and balanced, allowing many more interesting and viable teams to be built.
** As a smaller point, [=SocialPoint=] was also infamous for its [=YouTuber=]-based monsters, most of which were based on widely controversial or even downright hated [=YouTubers=] such as [=LazarBeam=], Guava Juice, and [=UnspeakableGaming=]. With the release of a monster based on Morgz, most of the community had given up entirely on more positively-regarded [=YouTubers=] getting monsters. Just as this came to a head, a monster based on WebVideo/MrBeast, a popular and generally loved Tuber, was released, which gave much of the community hope that this trend will change. Recently, they have also been creating monsters based on little-known [=YouTubers=], such as [=TheDooo=], Marley, ZHC, and Matt-Stonie, which some could see as forgoing their money-hungry tendencies to direct attention towards smaller [=YouTubers=] they like (kind of like a reverse-sponsorship).
** [=SocialPoint=] had themselves a pretty bad rep with the first 2 months of the Cosmic Era, especially with the pure imbalance between the paid monsters and the free ones. The first 2 exclusive monsters, [=Vanoss2099=] and Solarflare, infamously dominated the game's meta on release (as if that wasn't bad enough, they came automatically at Rank 3), while the free counterparts, Slugazoid and Atrox, were absolute garbage on a level that almost seemed intentional. While the third pass afterward didn't help with the former (if anything, Shelly's even more of a GameBreaker than the other two), Chuckle Muckel has been universally praised as a massive diversion from the last two free monsters. The pass right after would end up doing the exact opposite; while the Free monster, Spawny, is just as awful as usual, the exclusive monster, Kaih the Sunmelter, isn't nearly as overpowered as previous exclusive monsters. They seem to be sticking to this better-balanced approach, too, as more recent pass monsters tend to be better balanced with only a small handful of outliers such as December 2020's Chimaney.

** Hayman for OP+It's unknown really how this meme came into existence, but it's one of the oldest memes in the community. Hayman is an earlier-released Halloween event Legendary monster, and overall a pretty terrible support in the meta. Despite this, it's become a long-running joke to treat Hayman as an overpowered monster that breaks the game, specifically making mention of his godly Daze Immunity trait and Team Precision move. This later became an AscendedMeme when [=SocialPoint=] gave him a massive buff as of Halloween 2021, giving him the highest stats of all Legendaries (on par with most Mythics) and a significantly better movepool (though he's still stuck with Daze Immunity for a trait).

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

*** This has been taken UpToEleven with the announcement of multiple "Eras" with even higher stats. Only a few months after the beginning of the Mythic Era, the Cosmic Era got announced and was quick to sweep almost every Mythic under the same rug as Legendary monsters, giving it a similar fan response to said Mythics between those that felt optimistic for a new start and those that felt betrayed by a repeat of the last rarity announcement. However, once the exact same thing happened another few months later, now with the "Corrupted Era", to say people were unimpressed would be an Understatement. While it still has its supporters that believe the game's gotten stale and could use another rework, most of the fandom flew into a rage upon its leak, and many even left the game outright, stating that they'd lost hope by now.
