*CompleteMonster: ComicBook/{{Carnage}} created a "family" of fellow super villains, using their powers to drive New York into homicidal insanity and to capture his "father" Venom, in whose captivity Carnage subjected to horrible torture. Not even his own family was safe from Carnage's psychosis and he brutalized his "wife" Shriek for ignoring his instructions before murdering their "son" Doppleganger when he tried defending her.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Could Venom and the other anti-heroes be right? Would the world - or at least New York - be safer if they simply killed Carnage and put him out of everyone's collective misery? Are Spider-Man, Captain America, Firestar and all the other "white hat" heroes really doing the right thing leaving him alive, or are they clinging to unrealistic ideas of how the fight against evil should be fought?
* BrokenAesop: It's better to let cruel, sadistic, vicious mass murderers with super powers live and go on endangering innocent people just because it's not nice to get ones hands dirty by killing bad people.

** At the end of the story Spider-Man once again tries to stop Venom from killing Carnage - even though by this point there really is no good reason not to other than needing recurring villains for future stories - and Spider-Man actually tries to defend Carnage by saying that in his own twisted way Carnage is really "the most innocent of all" simply because he had a bad childhood. At best it's unintentionally funny to hear our oh so compassionate hero insist that a heartless serial killer is "the most innocent of all" just because of his bad childhood, at worst its not only TooDumbToLive but is extremely disrespectful to Carnage's victims, genuinely decent people who never hurt anyone and were just trying to live out their lives. [[spoiler:Then again this is Spider-Man, the guy who sold his marriage to the devil to keep his 104 year old aunt alive for another week, so what does he know?]]

* SpotlightStealingSquad: Venom, Cloak, Dagger, Doppelganger, Shriek, Black Cat. It's as if the writers deliberately went out of their way to make Spider-Man as much of a bit player as possible.
** It says something when the cover reads "Things don't look good for Venom and pals" even though the comic is supposed to be about ''Spider-Man!''
** Hell, just look at the cover art. Oftentimes Spider-Man is shoved down into a corner or a sideline while Venom or Carnage are prominently featured. Also, he's frequently shown getting his ''ass kicked'' on the cover fight scenes, way more than any other character.

* ChaoticEvil: Carnage, et al. Carnage actually outright states this at one point, bragging how the world is nothing but "chaos", and that "law and order" are a lie. Weirdly, Demogoblin briefly abandons his usual LawfulEvil M.O. for this story.
** In fairness Demogoblin originally joined in to get ahold of his old teammate Doppelganger, (from the Infinity War) and while he DID join, he made a "villainous rationalization" for his actions (getting to burn/kill more sinners). Though at one point he did question the whole "senseless violence" thing, which didn't sit well with Carnage.
* CharacterDerailment: Carnage and Venom. Carnage because there is no way he could work with anyone for a long period of time, let alone have any leadership qualities.
** He did not work with them for ''long'' and even [[spoiler: killed Doppelganger late in the story.]] And how exactly was Venom derailed?
*** May be in regards to his "Lethal Protector" phase, though that change had already been made shortly before this storyline began.
