* TheUntwist: Quite a few "plot twists" in this series are fairly obvious, mainly because the foreshadowing is a little too thick. Some of these include [[spoiler: Ginta's dad being Danna, obvious because his father had gone missing six years ago... exactly when the last War Game happened. Koyuki and Snow being connected in some way, granted the exact nature of the connection differs between the manga and anime but nobody is pretending that the fact they were connected was in any way some kind of surprise. The Queen being Diana, and Diana being Dorothy's sister... I mean just look at her! They looked too similar for the revelation of them being related to be a surprise. The only plot twists that aren't untwists are ones that border on AssPull, such as Babbo being the spirit of the previous Caldean Elder... because nothing hinted at that earlier]].

* FanonDiscontinuity: Most MAR fans, do not acknowledge MAR Omega as part of the canon-or a sequel. Mostly because, it was done by a completely differently mangaka, Ginta isn't even the main character, and the original main team characters are now basically support cast-or background characters.
** Lots of people also consider the anime ending superior to the original manga's, which was anti-climactic, rushed and little bittersweet.

** Lots of people also consider the anime ending superior to the original manga's, which was anti-climactic, rushed and a little bittersweet.bittersweet.
** Most ''MÄR'' fans do not acknowledge ''MÄR Omega'', an official {{sequel}} penned by the original author, as part of the canon for a myriad of reasons. First, the new art and overall character design by Kōichirō Hoshino is mostly inferior to the original. Ginta and most of the original main characters are DemotedToExtra and replaced by a new generation of forgettable [[ReplacementScrappy Replacement Scrappies]], and the plot and fights are now centered around Guardian [=ÄRMs=] as a thinly veiled attempt to turn it into a {{Mon}} franchise. And even if you weren't bothered by any of that, the series was swiftly [[{{Cancellation}} cancelled]] after 4 volumes, making it an unsatisfying read with a rushed ending ''[[HistoryRepeats (again!)]]'' and unresolved plotlines.

Discussed on the thread to be cut. The entries are more for Hate Sink than The Scrappy

* TheScrappy:
** Edward and Belle are considered annoying, clingy mascots. Edward is only there to be a handicap for Alan before the curse was undone and once that happened, Edward had no character of his own, aside from commentary and being a SatelliteCharacter to either Alan or Snow. Belle in comparison reminds too many people of a certain fairy from a [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime certain video game]] due to her annoying voice and clingy attachment to Alviss, mainly for [[DieForOurShip shippers who rather have her gone so Alviss can be closer to preferred ships like Ginta, Rolan or Phantom]].
** On the villain's side, Girom is thoroughly despised for being an obnoxious, sadistic SerialKiller that specifically targets women, and for being a coward every time he's cornered, which occurs every time he fights. This hate increased once he crossed the MoralEventHorizon by [[spoiler: killing Aqua, a Chess Piece beloved by the fans, in a cruel KickTheDog moment]]. Made even worse by the fact that [[KarmaHoudini he's spared and remains alive to the end of the series in spite of his actions]] and [[UngratefulBastard continuing to cause hardships for the heroes even after Ginta spares him time and again.]] He also lacks the EvilIsCool and LoveToHate factor by having no redeeming qualities aside for his love for his equally repulsive sister, Rapunzel.
** Rapunzel, much like her brother, is not liked by the fandom and one of the few Knights to avert the EvilIsCool and LoveToHate aesthetic of the group. She's [[NoIndoorVoice a perpetually screaming]], [[SmallNameBigEgo narcissist who belittles everyone else for being ugly in spite of being very hideous]], obnoxious and incredibly StupidEvil for her short-sighted BadBoss antics that resulted in her entire team being killed almost entirely by her own hands, overall coming across as a violent irritation to everyone around her than a truly disturbing psychopath to not tread lightly. Her one redeeming quality of caring for Girom feels shallow as he's just as unsympathetic as her, and even with her FreudianExcuse, it rings hollow as she and Girom are all too happy to be proud, arrogant, remorseless murderers, especially in comparison to Phantom and [[spoiler: Chimera]]'s [[DarkAndTroubledPast who've suffered far worse in comparison to put it lightly]]. * TheUntwist: Quite a few "plot twists" in this series are fairly obvious if you're GenreSavvy, mainly because the foreshadowing is a little too thick. Some of these include [[spoiler: Ginta's dad being Danna, obvious because his father had gone missing six years ago... exactly when the last War Game happened. The Queen being Diana, and Diana being Dorothy's sister... I mean just look at her! They looked too similar for the revelation of them being related to be a surprise. The only plot twists that aren't untwists are ones that border on ShockingSwerve, such as Babbo being the spirit of the previous Caldean Elder... because nothing hinted at that earlier]].

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The series started out as a perfectly respectable adventure series, and was setting up for an epic journey across the country. Then the next episode cuts to them already at their destination and the majority of the series is spent on a fighting tournament. This wouldn't be so bad if the battles weren't such a step down from those of FlameOfRecca. Fortunately, the anime fixes some of these things by adding filler arcs that don't have to do with the tournament and the aftermath which included the Ghost Chest arc and the final arc which had a much more satisfying ending than the original manga.
