** Alex, with his flamboyant, Broadway style dance maneuvers, [[{{Keet}} overexcited personality]], and suspiciously close relationship with his best friend, Marty the zebra. In the first film, he gets very upset and concerned when Marty leaves the zoo to find the wild, bites him on the butt when he reverts to his primal instincts and in the second one, he confuses Marty with the other identical zebras multiple times, causing a strain on their friendship and finally there's their reconciliation near the end, where Alex finally manages to tell Marty from the rest of the zebra herd, by [[spoiler: his bite mark on Marty's rear from the last film.]] It's also been pointed out that his interaction with his father seems like a metaphor for a ComingOutStory. 
** Come the third movie [[HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday he is given]] a LoveInterest in the form of Gia, but considering their relationship could just as easily be interpreted as friendship, there is the problematic matter of [[YoungerThanTheyLook her age]], and Alex is...rather close to the gruff, butch tiger Vitaly, nothing is really resolved. Alex and Vitaly have a few moments like this, in fact (like the tiger calling Alex a lioness). And one of the more common promotional images for the third movie, of Vitaly thanking Alex for the loan of the mane conditioner for his act, [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Alex_and_Vitaly_Resized_9804.jpg looks very bad out of context]] since it looks like he's holding a bottle of lube...
