** In the Korean dub, watching Alex talking to "Spaulding" (a reference to "Wilson" from Film/CastAway) is particularly funny once you remember that Song Kang-ho, the voice of Alex, is commonly referred to as "the Korean Creator/TomHanks".

* FetishFuel: Gloria is very popular amongst Chubby Chasers, for obvious reasons. The sequel seems to acknowledge this when Moto Moto takes interest in her for her size.

* GameBreaker: Gloria in the GBA game. While not as mobile as the others (Marty has better jump height and can run, while Alex and Melman both have access to double jumps) Gloria is a lot more useful. On top of having a ShockwaveStomp that has some serious range and being the only character with SuperNotDrowningSkills, she also has a GoombaStomp from the moment you can play as her that is absolutely broken. It starts the moment Gloria starts decending, is a OneHitKill on most enemies, and is the only attack in the game that can destroy the razor grass on the island. In fact you can beat most levels playing as Gloria just by walking along the bottom edge of the map, since she makes most of the danger from the levels easily avoidable while occasionally switching over to Alex or Marty when they're needed.

** In the second movie, Julien gets the line "I would invade a neighboring country and impose my own ideology on them, even if they didn't want it!" His voice actor, Creator/SachaBaronCohen, later played Film/TheDictator.

** Alex, with his flamboyant, Broadway style dance maneuvers, Keet overexcited personality, and suspiciously close relationship with his best friend, Marty the zebra. In the first film, he gets very upset and concerned when Marty leaves the zoo to find the wild. And when they all become stranded in Madagascar, Alex's hunger grows for meat, so with Marty being the closest thing to stake available he licks his rump in his sleep and in another scenario, bites him on the butt when he reverts to his primal instincts and in the second one, he confuses Marty with the other identical zebras multiple times, causing a strain on their friendship and finally there's their reconciliation near the end, where Alex finally manages to tell Marty from the rest of the zebra herd, It's also been pointed out that his interaction with his father seems like a metaphor for a ComingOutStory.
** There's a scene in Madagascar 2 where Julien is giving Melman romantic advice while climbing all over his head and stroking it repeatedly. Not to mention he assumed, or pretended to assume, Melman was going to tell Gloria he hated her... He's also rather touchy-feely with Maurice in the first movie.

** "The Traveling Song"/"Alex on the Spot" for the second film.

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: The second film contains some good lessons about love regarding the LoveTriangle between Gloria, Melman, and Moto Moto. First off, Moto Moto is the first man Gloria meets and is apparently interested in, and she does go along with the fact he really loves how fat she is. However, their date quickly falls apart because Moto Moto literally cannot think of any other reason he's attracted to her besides her weight. Melman, meanwhile, in his speech, never once mentions her physical beauty or traits, and shows that he really does care about her and not her body. Gloria is touched by this and ultimately gets together with Melman. The lesson is that there has to be far more than physical attraction to really be worthy of someone's love and that you have to love the person inside the body, no matter how good-looking they are. Whoever thought they'd teach this lesson through two hippos and a giraffe?
* TastesLikeDiabetes: Melman's heartfelt profession of his love for Gloria and later his smaller speech as he is taken to the volcano is absolutely beautiful. Maybe too beautiful for some viewers.
