* CriticalDissonance: Critics lauded ''Dark Moon'' much more than the first game, citing it's inventiveness, graphics, length, and gameplay to be superior to it's predecessor. Fans however believe that while the game is great in it's own right, consider this to be the OddballInTheSeries and find it weaker than the first.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: For E. Gadd, since in the original game he states he was turning ghosts into portraits for his art collection, which makes him come off as a DesignatedHero since not only is there not any moral reason for it, but many of the ghosts he went after weren't even violent unless provoked. In this game, most of the ghosts are friendly until the Dark Moon is shattered, and after it's reassembled and the ghosts go back to normal, he releases all of them.

* TheScrappy: Polterpup. A lot of fans hate this ghostly dog for always appearing out of nowhere to hinder Luigi's quest in a way (especially since he is supposed to be going after the Dark Moon pieces). Polterpup forces Luigi to track it down with the Dark-Light Device and backtrack through previous rooms and, unlike other ghosts, always seem to be able to escape from the Poltergust 5000. However, he does get rescued at the end after [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone genuinely being ashamed of his actions]] and Luigi (who has grown to dislike the dog as well) forgiving and adopting him.

* AnnoyingVideoGameHelper: Gadd constantly calling you to critique your work is probably the only universally agreed weak point of this game. It gets annoying at times and he does it so frequently that it really slows down the pacing of the game, making him an almost unbearable chatterbox for even first-time players.

* SophomoreSlump: While fans still argue that it's a great game in its own right, this game is generally agreed to be the weakest game in the Luigi's Mansion trilogy due to its mission-based structure, lack of portrait ghosts and its [[BrokenBase divisive]] "wacky" art style.

King Boo called his minions useless in Luigi’s Mansion 3. He’s not back to his old personality. He’s still an insane sociopath.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Is King Boo ''really'' that much of an asshole at this point, or is his crown inhabited by something that is turning him into one? The latter would explain why it is colored purple now as opposed to red in the first game, although he undergoes CharacterRerailment in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion3'' and goes back to his AFatherToHisMen personality with a "shoving people in paintings" ''modus operandi''.
