** Kubo also shares a name with Creator/TiteKubo, most famous for ''{{Manga/Bleach}}''. It's a bit [[HilariousInHindsight funny in hindsight]] when you realize both Kubos share a lot of similarities. Both Kubos are skilled storytellers, but are also infamous for never really resolving their stories in a satisfying fashion.

** Also combined with NamesTheSame throughout the second half of the movie. The fact that Kubo's father Hanzo shares a name with the Hanzo from {{VideoGame/Overwatch}}, [[spoiler: has an affinity for a bow and arrow, and bore a striking resemblance to him in life]] makes it a bit hard to take seriously.

** Was [[spoiler: the Moon King]] subject to HeelFaceBrainwashing or was he a decent person who became a god.

** Beetle's reckless actions like grabbing the sword from the Gashadokuro's hand or jumping overboard to find the armor. While it could simply be his LeeroyJenkins nature, it could also just be him acting on his promise of swearing his life to Kubo.

** The cause of Sariatu's condition, wherein she's catatonic for most of the day with only brief periods of lucidness and suffers from memory loss. Is it because she's a formerly divine being gone from her place of birth to the human realm? Is it because she and her family are all beings of the night that she's only really active at night time rather than the day? Or does it all stem from the severe head trauma she received when Kubo was a baby?

* ClicheStorm: Much of the film's plot is archetypal as UsefulNotes/FeudalJapan-based stories go, but that's [[TropesAreNotBad not necessarily a bad thing.]]

* HeReallyCanAct: Art Parkinson's most famous role is Rickon Stark in ''Series/GameOfThrones'', where he was infamously given almost nothing to do across the four seasons he appeared in. This caused some fans to wonder if this meant the crew was disappointed in his acting skills, but his performance here definitely shows he has real chops.

* IronWoobie: '''Kubo.''' The amount of emotional suffering he went through is just...wow. First, his eye is ripped out by his grandafther. Then, he spends the next eleven years taking care of his ill mother. And after accidentally staying out past night, the Sisters, Kubo's maternal aunts, come to ''take out his other eye''. [[MamaBear His mother sacrifices herself to keep him safe.]] [[spoiler:And when Kubo learns (at different times) that his mother and father are Monkey and Beetle, respectively, they are both killed by one of the Sisters...''right in front of him.'' And while he manages to defeat his grandfather by weaponizing ThePowerOfLove, his grandfather doesn't remember Kubo.]] And yet, Kubo keeps his kind and brave spirit through it all.
