* HilariousInHindsight: This fanfic was remarkably prescient about plots that were used in official sources:
** In an obscure comic from a German magazine, most of Ponyville gets paralyzed. Rarity travels beyond Equestria's border to find a specific variety of barley to cure them, and she meets a kingdom of earth ponies there.
** In the season 4 episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E11ThreesACrowd Three's a Crowd]]", Twilight and Princess Cadance travel to the very edge of Equestria to find a rare flower, which is the fastest cure for a sick friend. Upon picking the flower, they're attacked by a giant worm.
** The comic storyline "Root of the Problem" introduces deer into the franchise... and they're absolutely ''useless'', only making things worse via their presence. Compare to the "WE ARE BETTER THAN YOU IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY" depiction here.

*** Not quite. The basic premise of the story is that Twilight will die before the horn rot cure can be made. The Beneviolet is a faster way to recover. So if Twilight was put in suspended animation, the horn rot cure could have been made naturally and eliminated the need for the Beneviolet.

* NightmareFuel: Wait, did they actually defeat that [[spoiler: World Snake?]]
** Answer to the original question: [[spoiler: No, the World Snake was later killed in the true sequel by the [[EldritchAbomination evil immortal deer]]. In one shot.]]

** It's not as bad as it sounds. The reason that animals and plants around Equestria are pony-maintained are because of an ancient war between the different deer species, which also killed off the majority of the deer. So they hid deep the Shimmerwood Forest, honing their magical ability. Their leader, Lady Falalauria, actually mentions that she is almost as powerful as Princess Celestia (a full-fledged ''goddess''.)

* NightmareFuel: Wait did they actually defeat that World Snake?

* ShoutOut: The very title is part of a line from the first ''LordOfTheRings'' book.
