There are those hoping for Batman-related characters who haven't been revealed, detractors thinking "OhNoNotAgain", and moderates who accept the reveals but hope for better diversity.

The trope is not "fans don't like something"; it's "fans don't like something but there are also fans that do like it", and an explanation for why this is so.

** As with the first game, some fans are taking umbrage with the amount of Batman related characters present. As of this writing, six of the eighteen revealed characters originate from Batman stories.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Damian Wayne was reviled back in the first game chiefly because he reduced fan-favorite Dick Grayson/Nightwing into an AdvertisedExtra, used his moveset, took his place in the Nightwing Arcade mode, and being an obnoxious jerk that killed him. Time did wonders to heal the wound, and when he returned as Robin with his own style (and a katana), reception is more positive that he's at worst just a BaseBreakingCharacter.

* ReplacementScrappy: Though Deadshot's inclusion was overall well-received, he's been getting this reaction from Deathstroke fans due to the general idea that he is replacing him. Many bring up the fact that the only thing they have in-common is the use of guns, but otherwise have many differences in terms of overall style (for example, Deathstroke uses swords - Deadshot does not), and they would say that Deadshot being in the game does not justify cutting out such a popular character.

* BrokenBase: The new CharacterCustomization system has caused a great divide between casual and competitive players alike. The former thinks it's a great system that evolves upon the "Variation" system from VideoGame/MortalKombatX, allowing players to fine-tune their characters to their own style. The latter thinks it will shatter all competitive balance Some even fear that the system will affect details like hitbox, reach, meter gain, blockstun/frames, recovery, and so on... with some hoping that there is an option to leave the characters in their base stats to preserve balance. The bigger issue for tournaments is more about logistics than balance. The main problem being how to make it so that every player has access to their customized character/gear in all stations of a tournament. This is pretty much the same issue that got gems banned in competitive VideoGame/StreetFighterXTekken. Somewhat alleviated by the Gamespot E3 interview confirming that there will be equalizing factors for at least the tournament scene.
** The gameplay footage seen so far indicates that the sole Superman playable in the game is the Regime one. Superman fans already tired of the done-to-death Evil Superman trope aren't very happy with that while some players find the more aggressive Kal-El an interesting character. Others are hoping that the heroic main universe Superman is still going to be in the game and simply pending his reveal since it's early days yet.
