* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: For a web series, it has really good special effects with weapons and the Covenant. Microsoft really put a lot of money into ''VideoGame/{{Halo 4}}'', and the marketing budget had to go big too. Understandably, ''Forward Unto Dawn'' got a lot of good backing driving those effects.

* VindicatedByHistory: The reception to the web series was pretty mixed with more than a few fans finding it underwhelming and dull despite its awesome finale. This view didn’t change after it was rereleased as a movie. However come the Creator/{{Paramount}}’s ''Series/Halo2022'' series and its fan backlash, far more people have come to truly appreciate ''Forward Unto Dawn'' for doing justice to the source material with Daniel Cudmore’s portrayal of Master Chief easily being TruerToTheText than Pablo Schreiber‘s version.

Now a disambiguation.

* CriticalResearchFailure: The script writers clearly didn't understand how an actual MilitarySchool works. General Black's constant involvement with and treatment of a group of freshmen cadets is the most JustForFun/{{egregious}} example. Colonel Mehaffy's (non) reaction to the fight is a close second since fighting between students is considered a serious offense, and is often grounds for suspension or dismissal.
** Or since this seems to be the first time Lasky acted aggressively towards something they overlooked it. Everyone had him pegged for a disloyal pacifist up to that point.

Uncanny Valley is IUEO now and the subjective version has been split; cleaning up misuse and ZCE in the process

* UncannyValley: Spartans without their helmets fall into this. This was likely intentional, since they've been trained and augmented so far beyond human potential. This comprises having faces too-youthful for their size (the youthful faces are right for their age, the size of the bodies on which those faces rest is what is unnatural), too-pale skin (from having spent most of their time in armor), and otherworldly eyes (due to their ocular augmentations.)

** The circumstances of General Black's death are left ambiguous. Did he die standing his ground against the Covenant? Or does the fact that his body is found in the driver's seat of his warthog mean that he was [[DirtyCoward trying to flee]] before being killed?

** The story of the real life Roman General Corbulo: A valiant warrior hero whose suicide at the Emperor's command represents ultimate loyalty (as General Black would have everyone believe), or a tragic victim of corrupt politics and Emperor Nero's paranoia?

In a way, this parallels the destruction of Corbulo Academy: On the surface, it's meant to show how Lasky was inspired to stay in the UNSC and become the soldier he is today. On the other hand, ONI's decision to hide all knowledge of the Covenant from the public arguably left the planet woefully unprepared for an attack.

* NarmCharm: In Part 5, Master Chief does an entirely unnecessary ''backflip'' to the ground after shoving a bomb into the [[spoiler:Hunter.]] The rest of the scene is so ridiculously awesome that it sort of doesn't matter how silly the backflip looks.

** The use of propaganda by the academy and students is subtle and effective. They're given rousing speeches laid thick with military history (see General Corbulo above), the ceilings of their bunk beds are engraved in patriotic slogans inches from their faces, and whenever Lasky has a contrarian thought about the Insurrectionists the only response he gets is "Why don't you hate them? You should." The interpretation here is either the movie is campy MildlyMilitary or brilliant in its message.

Fan Dumb & Hate Dumb are now part of Flame Bait. Only in-universe examples are allowed.

* FanDumb: There's is a distressing amount of comments on YouTube about how the series is "inconsistent" and "confusing" apparently because the commenters in question can't tell between the flash forward sequences in the intro and the scenes in the past of the rest of the series. Understandable for the first video since not all may have read preview material for what it was about and when it was set, but said comments persisted up to the last video.

Lame handwave that doesn\'t explain anything about the failure to execute military discipline.

** Excused somewhat by the fact that this is a UNSC Academy, not a United States Academy, AND this all takes place 500 years in the future.
