* LGBTFanbase: Much like its origin gacha game, Granblue Fantasy Versus has attracted vocal LGBTQ+ fans due to the inclusion of Cagliostro and Ladiva, two characters who are seen as representations or positive portrayals of UsefulNotes/Transgenders in fighting games. Cagliostro is a powerful alchemist who was born with a sickly male body, but preferred to transfer her soul into a cute female body, while Ladiva is an AllLovingHero who's referred to with feminine pronouns despite having a muscular build of a male wrestler. Ladiva is much more praised by these fans because the other characters' interactions with her show respect to her gender of choice. * LowTierLetdown: Lowain is almost universally reviled as being an annoyance at lower tiers of play. His normals are bad, his specials are medicore, and his damage output is on the low side. While he has great pressure setups and a good okizeme game, he lacks a number of crucial tools other characters have which makes most of his matchups go poorly for him. His SSA, Yggdrasil, is one of the most powerful scrub-killers in the game, since while her moves deal tons of damage and can even then deal serious chip damage, each and every one of them can be avoided if the opponent knows how, making it a waste to use at high levels of play. All of this culminates in a character that is a perfect scrub killer, but struggles to be anything beyond that.

* TierInducedScrappy:
** High Tier variants include Gran, Katalina, Ferry, and Lancelot. Gran is a strong shotoclone with tools for every situation, his dreaded boot which can be a fast combo extender and dangerous pressure tool, and he has some of the most powerful counter-hit combos in the game. Katalina is similar to Gran, but trades his high damage for long, annoying normals that are difficult to deal with regardless of who you're playing. Ferry is the one true zoner in the cast aside from Beelzebub, but where he struggles with how to deal with opponents coming up close and personal, Ferry can do tons of damage in her combos, almost all of which reset you a far distance away from her. Lancelot is a very fast and dangerous pressure character with long, easy-to-play combos that are nearly impossible to deal with if you lack a true DP, and his extremely powerful combos make him both an effective high-level bruiser and a low-level scrub killer.

All of this culminates in a character that is a perfect scrub killer, but struggles to be anything beyond that.
** Belial quickly became this at the start of Season 2. He has the basic Shoto-style moveset that Gran, Katalina, and Djeeta have, except jacked up to ridiculous levels of versatility. While everyone else got nerfs to fireballs and certain poking tools, Belial doesn't follow those conventions, having powerful anti-zoning tools such as a projectile that can convert into another one to catch people trying to jump over it or dodge roll through it, or even just extend the damage after it connects. The Medium version of his Shoryuken special is a built-in mixup that fakes the initial hit and instead drops down for an overhead, with the Heavy version having properties of both the Light and Medium versions. His Unique Attack is a walking counter that instantly teleports him to the opopnent's location when it connects with any of their attacks, including projectiles, and stomps on their head. The jumping version can be done instantly after a jump, and allows him to bounce off the opponent's head like a Rolento-style pogo stick to set them up for ambiguous crossups. And to top it all off, he has a very damaging command grab, and both of his Skybound Arts are extremely strong.
** Six[=/=]Seox ended up joining Belial in high tier after his release at the end of Season 2. He is essentially the game's counterpart to Karin from VideoGame/StreetFighterV in that he is a rekka character gifted with some of the strongest rushdown, mixup, and footsie tools in the entire game. Many of his attacks are advantageous on block, allowing him to easily pressure opponents, and thanks to his Vega-esque claws he boasts some of the most dangerous mid-range attacks of the entire cast, confirming off of them for huge damage. His rekka attaacks, much like Karin, also have built-in mixup followups that can be very difficult to defend against. He can safely approach from the ground and air very quickly as well.

** The Spanish translation, like all the translations from Creator/ArcSystemWorks's games, are translated to the European dialect, more especifically, using the archaic variation of it. In this case, however, this is justified, because, unlike other ASW's brawlers when the archaic dialect is used regardless the setting, the translation sound old-fashioned due to partly being the game being set in a medieval fantasy world, and partly because the game was translated from the original Japanese version, rather from English from proxy. This also has the effect that some characters are addressed with the archaic English honorific "Ser", rather than "Sir", possibly to the heavy influence from Series/GameOfThrones about its use.

** The $60 price tag itself. By the FGC's standards, GBVS is too expensive for a first iteration title with only 11 (or 12 if you count Beelzebub post-launch) characters. Some argue that the entire Story/RPG mode would justify or make up the costs, but a majority says otherwise. It doesn't help that this issue goes along with the above-mentioned concern of Granblue fans - The Steam port doesn't include the bonus codes for the gacha game, yet it is still has a base price of $60 for some reason. * TheyChangedItNowItSucks: With the balance update in September 2020 that also introduced Belial as a playable character, the development team made sweeping balance changes to many characters, some of which were widely considered perfectly fine or only in need of minor tweaks before the patch. This led to some people proclaiming the death of the game, yet many professional players were quick to adapt to these changes, most of which were simply aimed at reducing the range at which some of the most damaging combos could be started. Many characters that were widely agreed on to have been top-tier before the patch (usually Gran, Percival and Ferry, often also Katalina and Djeeta)were suddenly considered mid-tier, though it took 2 weeks at best for people to realize that these characters were still legitimately strong and very viable for the most part.

** Pre-release, the game's official title art is a big Foreshadowing giveaway on the initial playable roster since it contains the weapons that represent some Granblue characters from the gacha. Aside from Gran, the logo reveals that Ferry, Charlotta, Lancelot, Katalina, Lowain, Percival, Metera, Zeta and Vaseraga will be in Versus. This also led fans to believe IKnewIt and expect that the game would only have 10 characters in the base game. But it turned out to be 11 with the announcement of Ladiva. Nobody expected her since her unlocking weapon wasn't in the logo.

This entry about Gran is a All Blue Entry, with many shoehorned in potholes. It is not necessary to link to each and every character's dominant design trope.

** Gran hasn't had the best of reputations since the Animation so the story mode of Versus reminds everyone why he is just as strong as Djeeta, he defeats Katalina empowered by Ares on his own, and then goes on to defeat Charlotta, Lancelot, Colossus, Ladiva, Metera, Yggdrasil, Ferry, Percival, Rose Queen, Zeta, Vaseraga and Bahamut with the aid of only one crew member, it bears mentioning that Gran was fighting to subdue but thanks to Belial all who fought him were fighting to maim or kill and Gran still won. He caps off the story mode with a double knockout between himself and Beelzebub, who early on was empowered by the remains of Bahamut's power, without Sandalphon's or Cagliostro's aid.
** Ferry managed to see through Belial basically at a glance even though she could only sense very faintly that he was no ordinary human. The fallen angel of cunning is surprised and impressed enough to remark that she is "sharp as a knife". What's more, up to this point Ferry had been investigating the phenomenon of spreading chaos all by herself and on her own initiative, purely out of concern for restoring peace in the skies. This gets used against her when her memories are tampered with, leading her to believe that Gran's actions as the singularity are the source of the distortions.
** A villanous one for Belial, who manages to curbstomp Zooey without any effort thanks to the Versus Corse and Avatar's cores.
** Two for Beelzebub, first after he is defeated by Gran/Djeeta he defeats Bahamut with ease. .

** After years of their status as the Strongests in the Skies being more of an InformedAttribute, Anre demostrates why the Eternals are considered such a menace by fighting off legions of Erste Empire soldiers without breaking a sweat and fighting Belial to a standstill, forcing the Fallen Angel to admit that they are too evenly matched.
** After [[spoiler: the entire cast of the game gets played and pissed off by Belial, Beelzebub, upon returning to the Sky Realm, does the one thing that Belial wasn't expecting, teaming up with the crew, together this unlikely alliance beats the ever living hell out of the Fallen Angel, forcing him, in his own unique way to start begging for mercy, making Lucilius awaken too early and making Belial retreat to the rift betwee worlds]].

** Yggdrasil cannot be KO'd no matter how much damage you deal, but she can still leave Lowain with 1 HP. It's been recommended that the opponent should prioritize their own safety first by trying to survive her attacks, but blindly rushing to her feet, trying to deplete her HP with every attack instead of waiting for Lowain's return can be an indication that the opponent hasn't labbed/practiced against Yggdrasil, or that they didn't know she's invincible at 1 HP.

The two seasons of character passes were also similarly lambasted for being so expensive ($30 for the first season and $35 for the second) particularly because while it ultimately doubles the rosters, it was perceived that it still didn't provide the same value as many of it's contemporaries that either added more characters or additional features for a cheaper cost. Much like the base game it was accused that the inflated price was due to bonus codes for the gacha game.

* MorePopularSpinOff: For the western community only, as Granblue Fantasy itself is relatively unknown outside of it's home country and has a very niche appeal, despite having an English option and being accessible through the browser. Granblue Fantasy: Versus doesn't have this problem and has been met more warmly in the mainstream, especially by those who enjoy fighting games. It may have even attracted more attention to Granblue Fantasy itself.

** Lack of Rollback netcode which is proven in many fighting games as an improvement over delay-based netcode GBVS is using has turned away a lot of potential players outside of Japan, especially when UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic forced offline events to be suspended. Many bemoans the game's wasted potential, blaming Arc System Works and Cygames for not implementing something that should've already been an industrial standard by then.
