* SubbingVersusDubbing: Regardless what you think about the English dub, on the other hand the Spanish dub not only is a literal straight dub, but also a relatively mediocre one due to the changed names (the English keeps most of the original names) and wooden performances. Although that was because in Argentinian Spanish it's very difficult to pronounce some Japanese words and names, compared with other Spanish dialects. There is apparently confusion as to whether the Spanish dub was done in Argentina or Colombia.

**In episode 3, Amanojaku jokes that the school play will be the first "R-Rated bloodbath in an elementary school." Which is very unfortunate after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012.

** "Run like a black man is chasing you" was still rather racy at the time, but it wouldn't fly over in the new tens.

* LoveItOrHateIt: The GagDub, of course.
** When the series first came out in America in 2005, reviews were harshly split – some loved the irreverent humor and excellent acting, while others (notably [=AnimeOnDVD's=] Chris Beveridge) despised it for its utter disregard of the original script. One reviewer on Anime News Network tried to split the difference, liking the dub but feeling that Episode 12 should have been played straight due to its heavier subject matter. None of the negative critics seemed to care that the show had been a complete flop in Japan.
** Keep in mind that this was the era when 4Kids was still at the height of their power and was busy making fans' heads explode with their universally-despised Manga/OnePiece dub, fuelling a backlash among an anime fandom that increasingly demanded zero alterations to a dub script during localization, quality be damned.
** 10+ years on, most people who hated the Ghost Stories dub have either left the scene or come to enjoy it as a kitschy reminder of a different era. While it still has its (often harsh) critics, the reception of the dub today is generally positive.

* SoOkayItsAverage: The general opinion on the original Japanese version, and part of the reason it didn't catch on. Even the unusually high quality voice cast couldn't save it. Opinions on the GagDub, on the other hand…

** A lot of the jokes with Leo involve the punchline being that he is jewish. In 2017, with antisemitism being quite high, it can make some of these jokes a little more cringe-worthy.

** Invoked for a gag in one episode wherein Satsuki yells at her brother and her dad, making her voice raise several pitches.
--> "And I thought her mother's voice grated on my nerves."

Added DiffLines:

* SpecialEffectFailure: In one episode (7), Satsuki and Hajime are animated to run down the hall... except the hall is not moving, so they are literally running in place. Naturally the voice actors made fun of it.
