* NightmareFuel: Harriet getting sadistically beaten by her boyfriend and his gang, who are heavily implied to gang rape her immediately afterwards. Not only is she screaming and crying for them to stop the whole time, but the music score eventually devolves into [[HellIsThatNoise cacophonous, atonal noise]], making the whole scene viscerally horrifying. The fact that [[ViolenceDiscretionShot we]] ''[[ViolenceDiscretionShot don't]]'' [[ViolenceDiscretionShot see the worst of it]], rather the scene cuts to [[MoodWhiplash a quiet evening outside their hideout]] a few minutes later, makes it [[NothingIsScarier even scarier]].

** Duke the Crow getting shot by a stray bullet. Not only is he one of the friendlier characters in the movie, but [[OnlyFriend the only male character to care about Fritz's well being]]. Even sadder, Fritz barely noticed he was even there in the first place. He doesn't even bother to bat an eye at his corpse.

* SpoofAesop: The ending of the movie. [[spoiler:Fritz concludes that he should stick to having sex with everyone he can and let the world take care of itself]].

* ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: Subverted. Oddly enough, even though Fritz is shown more directly partaking in drug use, the comic is far less surreal than the movie.

* CreatorBacklash: R. Crumb hated this movie so much, it led to him [[KilledOffForReal killing off the character]]. That didn't stop the producer from making a sequel, though the original's director also didn't take part in it.

They're depicted as privileged, culturally-neutered kids from sheltered upbringings with {{first world problems}} and no survival skills who only take part in social issues to be cool. Even the ones that are well-intentioned are at best uninformed (the three girls Fritz has sex with) and at worst cause even more damage (Fritz himself, who's call for revolution ends in a race riot), and the so-called radicals are actively worse from those they claim to be against (the neo-Nazis).

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The extended transition sequence with the crow snapping his finger to a Bo Diddley song comes and goes without much context. It does't have any relation to the story nor is there any need to go on for as long as it does, [[RuleOfFun but it's still a fun and memorable little scene.]]

* UncannyValley: Several of the crow characters are drawn with visible cheek bones to resemble African-American humans. Needless to say, it doesn't work.

* AcceptableTargets: Hippies. They're depicted as privileged, culturally-neutered kids from sheltered upbringings with {{first world problems}} and no survival skills who only take part in social issues to be cool. Even the ones that are well-intentioned are at best uninformed (the three girls Fritz has sex with) and at worst cause even more damage (Fritz himself, who's call for revolution ends in a race riot).

** Adding even more fuel to the fire is that Duke is one of the very few characters in the entire movie that's likable.

** Seeing [[spoiler:Harriet]] as a priest at the end, making it clear that she got away from her sexually abusive boyfriend.

Three or four decades later, we have Creator/MichaelClarkeDuncan playing ComicBook/TheKingpin, Creator/SamuelLJackson playing ComicBook/NickFury, and Creator/LaurenceFishburne playing [[{{Superman}} Perry White]].
