* ItsShortSoItSucks: The manga's version of the Universe Survival Arc is heavily criticized for this, with fans taking issue with how the arc was seemingly being rushed by Toyotaro. Fighters who received extensive focus in the anime were quickly wiped out or nowhere nearly as focused on in the manga, with four universes eliminated in the span of a few pages. Not helping is that each chapter of the actual tournament ends with a small timeskip, meaning many moments are just not shown either, resulting in some of the issues the anime had becoming even worse. For clarification on the length; the anime's take on the arc was 54 episodes long, with the actual tournament being roughly 35 episodes long, during which many awesome moments occurred, and some of the shows largest criticisms were fixed for fans. By contrast, the manga is only roughly 15 chapters long (divided into four volumes), less if you only include the tournament section and not the stuff leading up to it.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: Some have this opinion of the Universe Survival Saga. While it does raise the potential for awesome fights, the fact that the losing universes and its inhabitants are instantly obliterated from reality and the DistantFinale of Z likely meaning that Universe 7 will end up winning, is leaving some fans frustrated over the prospect of losing many cool characters from the other universes, including Universe 6. The fact many of the characters are introduced act very antagonistic or downright unlikeable doesn't help.

* HypeAversion:
** Due to how long the Tournament dragged out and how undeveloped most of the antagonistic characters are, several fans can't really get into the Universe Survival Saga.
** To some, the Call Backs to previous arcs became this during the last episodes of the arc. Vegeta doing a Final Flash against Jiren like he did against Cell; Frieza surviving an energy of Destruction and then telling Jiren "he should die by his hand" like he did with Goku, or Vegeta doing the final explosion like he did with Majin Buu. Even to the Japanese community, this was tiresome and dragged the arc more by just PanderingToTheBase.

* ArcFatigue: The main problem a lot of viewers have with the arc is how long it drags out. The Tournament is 48 minutes long, but one episode takes place roughly one minute, making the arc the longest of the series. With the inconsistent writing due to the huge staff working on the episodes, most of the -admittedly very large number of- new characters remain undeveloped with no clear backstory (The number of characters introduced in this arc who have an in-depth backstory can be counted in one hand, with Jiren being a mystery until only 4 episodes remain, which by that point some viewers stopped caring) or elements that don't pay off (Like Quitela's hidden warriors or Gohan's leadership). While the concept of the battle royale was roughly played out during the first episodes (Like Basil's fight with Napapapa or Caulifla's fight with the Pride Troopers), this is quietly dropped out at some point when everyone decided to focus on Universe 7, giving them most of the eliminations.
** Ironically the manga has the opposite problem with many fans claiming it’s too fast paced and doesn’t devote as much time to fights or characters. It's certainly truer to the fast pace and hectic battle royale nature the tournament is supposed to have, but it's still sad to see so many well-received characters just brushed off like they're nothing, or characters underutilized by the anime to just remain exactly as much so. There's also multiple moments where characters are eliminated completely offscreen without explanation which, for all of the anime's flaws, it only did one or two times with it still somewhat clear what happened to cause it.

* FandomRivalry: The fandom is split over which version of the story, manga or anime, is the best one more so than any other arc. We won't discuss it here.

** The manga version was getting hyped by fans of the manga due to the census that Toyotaro is more consistent with both his writing, and how strong the characters are. When the actual tournament started however, many fans jumped ship at the apparent rushing of the story, with many characters getting thrown out without fanfare or even be shown getting knocked out until after the fact. Combined with things such as Hit being knocked out early on, Kale being stronger than Golden Frieza, and the elimination of certain characters, some fans have expressed disappointment at the manga.

* ItsShortSoItSucks: Part of the reason the manga's take on the arc has been criticized.Tons of characters have been knocked out every chapter, with many events from the anime either being cut, or being trimmed to the point of not really mattering. This can be seen when Berserker Kale ends up being responsible for nearly a quarter of the total fighters being eliminated, something that seems like a perfect excuse to rush past the arc. Not helping is that each chapter ends with a small time-skip that results in events happening off screen, such as various fighters being knocked out, Vegeta versus Toppo, and Gohan versus Kefla. While the anime was criticized a bit for being too slow, the manga is criticized for going too fast.

* ReplacementScrappy: Kale is this to many of Broly fans, who wished for him to appear in the canon series for decades and feel Kale is just a poor rehash of him.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** Majin Buu was only invited for the Exhibition Matches but ended up falling asleep for the actual tournament. This is worse in the manga, where he wasn't even present in the Exhibition Matches.
** Any of the characters that fall victim to the WeHardlyKnewYe trope, like the Universe 10 fighters, Doctor Rota from Universe 6, and Sorel from Universe 9, which many fans end up liking for her cute design alone.
** Universe 4. Despite the series presenting Quitela as TheRival to Beerus, and orchestrating the manipulation of the Pre-Tournament of Power episodes (Which includes Frieza killing the U9 assassins), he fails to deliver himself as a threat in the actual tournament, with his fighters being defeated very easily.
** Many fans feel it's a wasted opportunity that Future Trunks didn't stick around for this arc instead of being given a ReplacementGoldfish universe at the end of his arc, noting that his interactions with Vegeta, Gohan, Frieza, the androids, and Cabba could have all made for quite engaging storytelling.
** Krillin and Tien get shafted quickly into the arc. For Krillin, he gets one episode where he and 18 help eliminate some fighters from Universe 4, but, in a moment of weakness, Krillin gets knocked out by Frost. Meanwhile, Tien gets two eliminations before being knocked out by the second person he eliminated. Krillin was built up as being more important than he previously was while Tien really didn't get the chance to shine. They easily stand out as the weakest contribution to the team, especially compared to 17, 18, and Roshi, characters fans were sure wouldn't get the chance to shine but did. It's even worse in the manga, where the two are eliminated by Frost without taking out anyone, whereas the anime versions at least get to defeat a couple of fighters in a tournament where entire dozens of participants didn't. Krillin doesn't even get to throw a single punch, much less get an elimination, something that Beerus lampshades.
** Playing directly off of the above mentioned, the complete snubbing of Goten and Trunks from the arc. Goku shoots down the idea of them competing because he feared they wouldn't take the tournament seriously, and opts to include Krillin and Tien instead under the WeakButSkilled rationale....except they both proceeded to get eliminated rather early into the tournament. Fans lamented that this was a missed opportunity for Goten and Trunks to finally get some solid character development and moments in their own right.
** In the actual tournament itself, Gohan is a downplayed example. After getting a lot of great moments in the pre-tournament set up, such as his fight with Lavenda, training with Piccolo, and his amazing training fight with Goku, when the tournament actually starts, Gohan gets mostly pushed to the side in favor of Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, and 17, who become the final main four of the arc. Gohan does some good moments, like his fight with Obuni, helping Frieza in deceiving Frost, and him and Piccolo defeating the Universe 6 Namekians, he ends up being mostly a supporting character who lacked a big "Wow" moment for him to achieve. When the final battle with Universe 11 began, Gohan was the first member of the final five to be knocked out, which was not well received by fans since Gohan went out for what is considered a poor reason.
** The Universe 2 girls are considered this by some magical girl fans. Because many shows of that genre have well-liked and powerful protagonists with fantastic motivations and fight scenes, Universe 2 is merely treated as a saccharine parody of the concept, which to some people, falls into a ShallowParody.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** For many fans, the concept of the battle royale is a really good one, as it gives the opportunity for many new characters to be introduced and give focus to characters who are not Goku or Vegeta. However, only Universe 7 gets most of the victories and focus, as every universe decided to focus on attacking it, and only Universe 6 gets some of the focus (With newcomers Caulifla and Kale taking too much of the spotlight compared with already established Hit and Cabba).
** The tournament is basically a battle royale in name only. In practice, it plays out more like a tournament, as fighters rarely get in each other's way and there are countless episodes in which only 5 or 6 people fight, while there are actually dozens of people in the ring.
** Despite Goku and Vegeta being responsible for saving Gowasu's life in the previous arc, Universe 10 is presented as antagonistic due to Rumshii vocally despising Beerus. It would have made a good opportunity for Universe 7 to have a third ally during the Tournament along Universe 6.
** Alongside that, Universe 6 being allies with Universe 7 is never presented as an option, as only Hit and Cabba show some camaraderie with their counterparts (Hit and Goku being rivals, Vegeta and Cabba master and student). The rest of the members have either some grudge (Botamo and Magetta) or consider them Worthy Opponents (Like Caulifla). In fact, pretty much everyone not named Hit is eliminated by Universe 7 and ultimately the fourth universe to get erased in the end which also completely wastes an opportunity for Universe 6 to participate in the final battle against Universe 11 along with their counterpart.
** Kale's backstory not being explored at all, or not fully adopting the Legendary Super Saiyan legend is this for many viewers. In the series, Kale is just introduced as Caulifla's lackey which is InexplicablyAwesome for her unique Super Saiyan transformation. Unlike other fighters from Universe 6 which have some backstory to explain how powerful they are, Kale's power remains a mystery. For some, it makes her CharacterArc quite weak to follow.
** Despite being hinted at being related with Beerus and Champa, Dyspo's resemblance with Beerus is never explored and only lampshaded once by Champa. This is not exactly Dyspo's fault as a character, but the story would have greatly benefited itself from having characters lampshade their similar appearances and use Dyspo as a substitute for Beerus to have a payback. It sounds sadistic, but it would have been a great opportunity for Frieza to give some hint of what his relationship with Beerus was like.

** Sidra is also an example of this. We are supposed to dislike him because he tried to get rid of Universe 7 before the Tournament of Power. Instead, he comes more as a guy with too much on his shoulders and was forced to cross a line in order to survive. It helps that the people he wanted to eliminate were Frieza and Goku, and only did so due to Quitela's manipulations.

* SeasonalRot: The manga version of the Universal Survival Arc has been subject to a large amount of scrutiny from fans. Many, even those who critiqued the anime version for its ArcFatigue, have critiqued the manga for heavily rushing through many parts of the story in order to get to the end, leading to many characters having extremely anti-climactic and underwhelming eliminations and others getting little characterization. Additionally, the arc was running while a controversy surfaced over accusations of Toyotaro heavily referencing and tracing various bits of the manga from either the original Dragon Ball or other sources entirely, which combined with complaints such as his cluttered page layouts and odd plot choices has lead to many fans losing faith in Toyotaro as a creator.
