* LoveItOrHateIt: The series seem to have gathered rather polarizing opinions on whether they're good or not, with supporters being satisfied with Day's rendition and original story, while many other fans of ''Franchise/DragonAge'' protest the quality of the story, compared to the story quality of the games, several inconsistencies with the DA lore, and Tallis not being a likable protagonist.

* DesignatedHero: Tallis comes off as this several times. Despite being the hero of the story and having a sympathetic background, she seems largely apathetic to others and usually kills without any hesitation, even dropping cocky one-liners before doing it. She also steals from the Dalish, who welcomed her to their camp, and her first reaction to Josmael being a mage is to nonchalantly throw a dagger in his chest to test if he really is a healer. A bit hard to admire such a protagonist, at least for part of the audience.

* StrangledByTheRedString: Her LastMinuteHookup with [[spoiler: Cairn]] makes the previously stoic and borderline sociopathic Tallis act very out of character, [[spoiler: openly mourning his death and risking her place in the qunari community to honor him.]]

Main Characters cannot be creator\'s pets.

* CreatorsPet: One complaint about Tallis is that she occasionally comes off as this, though some find her likeable
** This also means that Tallis gets the only real character development over the course of the story, compared to say, Nyree, who the audience learns practically nothing about.

These aren\'t YMMV. Moving.

* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: No one really calls Nyree out for trying to rape Josmael (he clearly wasn't interested). When Tallis does, it's because it's time to move out, not for any moral reason.
** They do launch into the final battle about two minutes later. There wasn't really time for a scolding.

* {{Hypocrite}}: Tallis. [[spoiler:She went against orders to rescue young girls from a pedophile, but rescuing a girl intended for a blood sacrifice? Nope, stick to mission parameters!]]
** Actually, not so much, more like a lesson learned. Tallis clearly views attempting to save Feena as a mistake.
** It is likely that that incident taught her not to veer off from her mission then.
** She later tries to correct that mistake by trying to rescue Feena first. Which turns out to be a mistake.
*** Cairn, being a Templar, often veers into this. Someone like Josmael, born with the gift of magic is ''clearly'' an abomination in the eyes of the Maker... but Reavers such as Nyree, who became what they are ''by ritually drinking dragon's blood'', he won't even bother to bat an eye at. [[FlatWhat What?]]
*** This might have to do with the warped priorities of the chantry more than anything else (reavers have magical abilities but aren't technically mages).
** As the ''Franchise/DragonAge'' series likes to lampshade, since the Templars train to become capable of performing Anti-Magic, how does this really make them all that ''different'' from the Mages themselves? Granted against regular people they're just "metal guys in suits", but still, how is using semi-magical abilities as a tactical advantage against their opponents, not essentially the same thing?

* StrangledByTheRedString: her LastMinuteHookup with [[spoiler: Cairn]] makes the previously stoic and borderline sociopathic Tallis act very out of character, [[spoiler: openly mourning his death and risking her place in the qunari community to honor him.]]
* TooDumbToLive: Josmael. Granted, he is young and inexperienced, but his Keeper should have hammered it into his head early on when encountering Templars, it's best that ''you do not tell them you are a mage''.
** He ''was'' First to a Keeper that got nabbed by the Templars, so it's not like he had a particularly ''brilliant'' mentor, anyway.
** Which is even more impressive that we know that the Dalish can and will sacrifice themselves so they can ensure their Keeper survives. All in all, either they didn't like their Keeper or this seems to be the worst Dalish clan imaginable. The clan being devastated by a raid because the sentinels all got themselves killed before giving a warning also bears this out.
