* EnsembleDarkhorse: The new portayal of Starro as an unpleasent Troll with a mindset akin to Bill Cipher has become quite the hit with fans.
* EvilIsCool: Of the Dark Knights, many fans just love the designs for the Red Death, the Drowned and the Batman Who Laughs for being cool and different, while still taking enough inspiration to be identifiable as evil counterparts.
* HilariousInHindsight: This is not the first time that Batman and metal are in the same sentence together, with WebAnimation/Batmetal becoming an internet sensation in Youtube and the Internet just before this book is conceived. Although here, Batman is actually singing to Dethklok songs instead.

** Most people thought the Batman Who Laughs was scary-looking while some fans instead laughed at the character design. He wears what looks like a metal spiked dog collar over his eyes which looks too much like Batzarro's design to be taken seriously. He wears tight restricting leather and heavy Cenobiteish chains which would restrict his moments in combat. He never closes his mouth so his gums looks inflamed and puffy and his teeth have filed to points, on top of wearing red lipstick. He looks like a combination of a parody of various 90s DorkAge villains, some kind of concept art for a Hellraiser Batman, and a transvestite S&M stripper all rolled into one. He also has a bunch of cannibal Jokerized Robins who continuously chant "Crow!" This has earned him the fan nickname "Laughable Bats."

* BaseBreakingCharacter: The Batman Who Laughs was a hit in the Metal event, but he's gotten more contentious with each subsequent appearance, the editorial logic behind it being, Joker and Batman are both popular, right? Let's combine them! More baffling is his lack of resemblence to Bruce... or his stronger resemblence to ComicBook/JudgeDredd mainstay Judge Death...or the fact that The Grim Night was a more-accurate depiction of how a morals-free Batman would act. (It doesn't help that Joker in an edgy outfit is 90% of what Scott Snyder knows how to write.) Other people thought TBWL was some sort of Deconstruction meta-commentary on the Bat Family. The ethics of having a kid sidekick is clearly something which preoccupies Snyder: TBWL's chained Rabid Robins, his murder of the Bat fmFamily, his breaking of Damian and turning him into dark Robin; all of these seem like a critique of Batman's involvement in the lives of Dick, Jason, Damian, or even Duke and Cassandra. All five had their lives destroyed by outside forces, and many feel Bruce should have just raised them like normal kids--not put them in costumes. Whether that's true or not is subjective, but TBWL is more of a statement than the other demented Dark Knights.

* Wangst: The Dawnbreaker seems to be Batman's usual angst and brooding taken UpToEleven, his solo issue having a large focus on how he is "filled with darkness inside" and how he wants everyone to feel as bad as he does. Considering that not only is he a teenage version of Bruce Wayne who had been granted the power of a Green Lantern at an inappropriate time but he's also a personification of one of Batman's greatest fears and regrets, all of this might be intentional.

Darkness Induced Audience Apathy is when all factions involved in the main conflict are equally unlikeable or when the heroes' efforts ultimately amount to nothing and the universe still sucks. If the story features clearly defined heroes and villains and a positive outcome is achieved in the end, then the trope doesn't apply. Ensemble Darkhorse is about minor characters that become popular despite not doing much in the main narrative, not any popular character that isn't the protagonist.

Moved Nightmare Fuel to its own section

* NightmareFuel: Oh, God. Where do we start?
** The Dark Multiverse in general. Imagine a multiverse where unstable universes that shouldn't exist do. A multiverse where the worst possible scenario that could happen did happen. A multiverse based off of a person's fears, hopes and regrets. A multiverse where these unstable universes eventually start to rot and decay. And the monstrous inhabitants of the these universes serve a giant bat dragon under the false pretense of having their worlds restored.
** The Batman Who Laughs' origin: a Batman who did the one thing everyone wanted him to do: Kill the Joker. Unfortunately, this caused a special Joker toxin to be absorbed into him that changes his moral code into that of the Joker's while keeping Bruce Wayne's orderly mind. What's one of the things he does when the transformation is beginning? He calls upon Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood and Red Robin to explain what has happened to him. They tell him they'll do everything in their power to save him. But then he reveals that the real reason he called them was because he knew they would be the first people to realize something different about him and alert the other heroes...something he cannot allow to happen. And then he guns them all down like dogs. Then we cut to a scene where all the Justice League except Superman are massacred! Not dead, massacred! And then he proceeds to kill Superman, Superboy and Lois Lane by exposing the former two with a special strain of Black Kryptonite, which mutates them into monsters and kill Lois before they die themselves. Oh, and he somehow "convinced" his version of Damian into becoming a Joker himself.
** The Dawnbreaker's origin: A child Bruce Wayne who was given a Green Lantern ring immediately after the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne. His will alone overrides the ring's no kill rule and he destroys Joe Chill with it. He attempts to bring his parents back, only for them to be reanimated into zombies before he kills them. Then he goes on a massacre, killing every single criminal in Gotham. When the Green Lantern Corps tries to arrest Bruce, he shows off a new move: Black Out, which sucks the light out of an area before he slaughters them all with his ring's constructs.
** The Drowned's origin: Bryce Wayne, a gender bent Bruce Wayne, gets her lover, Sylvester Kyle (the gender bent Catwoman) killed by metahumans, resulting in Bryce becoming a racist towards all metahumans and goes on a rampage killing them all. When the Atlanteans tried to make a peace treaty, Bryce killed them too, resulting in a war starting. Bryce then painfully experiments on herself to give herself metahuman powers, resulting in her gaining not only Atlantean abilities, but also the ability to corrupt anything she comes into contact with into aquatic monsters.
** The Murder Machine's origin: A Batman who was forced to watch Alfred die at the hands of Bane, he worked with Cyborg to create an Artificial Intelligence based on Alfred to protect him, mentor him and heal him. Unfortunately, the Alfred AI worked too well in its program to keep Bruce safe and began killing all of Batman's enemies. When Cyborg told Bruce it has gone too far and must be deleted, the AI, sensing itself in danger, assimilated itself with Bruce, turning him into a robot version of Batman capable of controling nanotechnology and the ability to create copies of himself. After this, Batman killed the entire Justice League leaving Cyborg for last. Cyborg begged him not to become this "Murder Machine" and that there must be some humanity in him. The Murder Machine asked why would he ever want to be human again and that he doesn't consider Thomas and Martha Wayne is parents anymore, but Alfred. Or rather, the Alfred AI. And then he killed Cyborg by ripping his head and spinal cord out of his body.
** The Merciless' origin: A Batman whose girlfriend Wonder Woman was killed by Ares. With revenge on his mind, he stole Ares' helmet and became the new God of War, killing him in the process. What he didn't know was that Wonder Woman wasn't killed, but knocked out. When she saw Batman wearing Ares' helmet and armour, she begged him to take it off only for him to refuse. When she decided to fight him to get it off, he killed her.
** The Devastator's origin: The Superman of his world suddenly became evil and began attacking everything. Batman attempted to stop him with a Kryptonite spear, only to have his arm ripped off. With no choice and with all hope lost in his mind, Batman injected himself with the Doomsday virus, regenerating his arm and turning him into a Doomsday monster while keeping Bruce Wayne's mind. He kills Superman easily and then proceeds to infect everyone with the Doomsday virus, turning them into mindless Doomsday monsters.
** The Red Death's origin: A Batman who, after losing his entire family, kidnapped the Flash in an attempt to go back in time and save them. Flash tells him to stop, but Batman doesn't listen and straps him to the Batmobile and uses the Speed Force, but instead of going back in time, Batman and the Flash fused into a singular being with Flash trying to regain control but can't. The Red Death then learns to use the Speed Force to age people to death if he could, slaughtering all the world's enemies. And the Flash can only watch and beg Batman to stop.

When Cyborg told Bruce it has gone too far and must be deleted, the AI, sensing itself in danger, assimilated itself with Bruce, turning him into a robot version of Batman capable of control over nanotechnology and the ability to create copies of himself. After this, Batman killed the entire Justice League leaving Cyborg for last. Cyborg begged him not to become this "Murder Machine" and that there must be some humanity in him. The Murder Machine asked why would he ever want to be human again and that he doesn't consider Thomas and Martha Wayne anymore, but Alfred. Or rather, the Alfred AI. And then he killed Cyborg by ripping his head and spinal cord out of his body.

** The Batman Who Laughs' origin: a Batman who did the one thing everyone wanted him to do: Kill the Joker. Unfortunately, this caused a special Joker toxin to be absorbed into him that changes his personality into that of the Joker's.

Misuse of Broken Base; gotta be fans of the work for it to count.

** Scott Snyder co-writing has divided fans. While some who liked his Batman run are looking forward to the story, others are disappointed that Snyder is doing another Batman story and want someone else doing this instead. Others, who are Sndyer fans, would have preferred he instead write another ongoing and moved on from Batman. And then there are others who just don't want the story at all and would've preferred it not hijack other series.
