* ParodyDisplacement: In spite of the massive success "Viva la Vida" was, there exists a lot of people who haven't heard of it, yet are familiar with the ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' parody song of it, "WebAnimation/FallenKingdom" by Creator/CaptainSparklez.

** "Viva la Vida" alone got accused of plagiarizing multiple songs, including "If I Could Fly" by Music/{{Joe Satriani}}, "Foreigner Suites" by Cat Stevens, "[[{{Irony}} The Songs I Didn't Write]]" by Creaky Boards and, of all things, the invisibility music from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros.'' That said, most of those songs are already considered to be a take off of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's "Se tu m'ami."

** A special mention to Music/{{BTS}}, who've been fans of the group for years and expressed interest to collaborate with them. During the early release of ''Music of the Spheres'' rumors spread about a supposed collaboration. "[[PortmanteauCoupleName Coldtan]]" received much hype from Coldplay fans and [=ARMY=]s. When Coldplay and BTS finally announced their collaborative single "My Universe" a month before the release of ''Music of the Spheres'', Coldplay's tweet announcing it received over 1 million likes less than two days later. When the official music video came out, it amassed almost 3 million views in the first hour.

** Zig-Zagged with ''Ghost Stories''. While some still hold it in low par due to it being within the band's believed DorkAge that began with ''Mylo Xyloto'' and (arguably) ended with ''Everyday Life'', a majority have become to appreciate its heavy ambient soundscape. Some also do give it a pass due to it being written when Chris was having his CreatorBreakdown with his divorce.

** While less divisive than the previous album, ''A Head Full of Dreams'' still has this. One camp finds the album a nice remedy to [[DarkerAndEdgier the previous one]], while the other side thinks the album is [[TastesLikeDiabetes too colorful]], even for the standards of the band that made ''Mylo Xyloto'', and tries to overcompensate for the previous album. A third camp goes the extra mile, not having liked either this album or ''Ghost Stories'', and claim Chris Martin has lost his tact for songwriting.

** In the first quarter of the music video, Chris Martin's character experiences glitching. The first three instances can be brushed off as [[RuleOfCool cool film effects]] as the entire screen is shaking along with him, but the fourth time it happens (during the aforementioned broken record lines) Chris Martin's character is the only one spazzing out. Robot dogs are moving normally within the shot. One of them turns to look at Chris, reinforcing the idea that what Chris is doing is happening InUniverse.
