* HollywoodPudgy: The game has some pretty disturbing and unhealthy weight ranges for its characters. For instance, Janice's in-game body type is Plump, but really though, she's simply curvaceous. Only five characters could be considered "overweight", four of which are muscular. Miki is the worst, with a BMI of 14.0. But ''CT'' is pretty much a sacred cow as far as [[EasternRPG JRPGs]] go, and ''Cross'' is extremely different in many regards, is ''vastly'' more confusing, and has controversial handling of what little ''Trigger'' content does return, so there are many people who outright hate it. There are relatively few players who deny that it's a good ''game'', but whether it's a good sequel to ''Chrono Trigger'' is incredibly divisive.

* FoeYay: Buckets of it between Lynx and Serge -- even considering the fact he has a good InUniverse justification for it (Serge being the ChosenOne), Lynx's desire to [[spoiler:[[GrandTheftMe swap bodies]]]] coupled with a good deal of his dialogue is often disturbing and uncomfortable. Per the trope page, Dev Heaven is not supposed to be listed, even in YMMV.

* SugarWiki/DevelopmentHeaven: The game ventured in a completely different direction for the sole reason that its creators felt ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' was [[ToughActToFollow so good that trying to replicate it would merely be redundant]]. Both written and directed by Masato Kato, the head writer for ''Trigger'', ''Cross'' features a more personal and ponderous narrative and explores the themes of its predecessor from very different perspectives; the game incorporates a number of incredibly ambitious ideas (such as an [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters absolutely huge roster of playable characters]], complex and branching storylines, and high-minded philosophical themes) that few, if any games have attempted since. By far the most done-for-the-art aspect of the game, however, is the soundtrack: even though he had just quit [[Creator/SquareEnix Squaresoft]], Creator/YasunoriMitsuda was hired to score the game simply because Kato considered him an indispensible part of the ''Chrono'' formula. The decision to compose two different songs for each area--one for each dimension--was made at the last minutes, simply because Kato and Mitsuda thought it would be a good idea. The singer and lyricist for the ending theme, a relatively obscure artist by the name of Noriko Mitose, was chosen despite Square Soft PR's wishes for a more popular and marketable singer, simply because her style was deemed right for the game.

A few others like [[ReligiousBruiser Greco]], Guile, and Nikki are all right. The rest of them aren't very good.

Nearly ''every single line'' of his is either trying to start a fight or whining about He's RightlySelfRighteous, always haranguing someone over something trivial. Even more irritatingly, and making big deals out of trivial things, and when he's not doing that he's extorting money out of you in exchange for boat rides.
