** It's also been mis-blamed for being a rip-off of the 1970s British cartoon ''Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings'' (which later aired on Nickelodeon in 1979 and throughout the '80s as part of ''Pinwheel''). Co-creator Bill Burnett stated in a recent interview that ''[=ChalkZone=]'' was ''never'' meant to be a rip-off of the show- in fact, he had never even heard of it until after ''[=ChalkZone=]'' finished production.

* CultClassic: Despite it being one of Nickelodeon's lesser-known shows, in recent years it's developed a decent cult following especially among older fans who watched the show as children.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Skrawl. It helps that he's voiced by Creator/{{Jim Cummings|1952}}.
** The two vampire bridesmaids from "Pumpkin Love" have ''quite'' the following for [[EvilIsSexy obvious]] [[CreepyCute reasons]]. (Notably, they were designed by future ''[[WesternAnimation/ElTigreTheAdventuresOfMannyRivera El Tigre]]'' and ''WesternAnimation/TheBookOfLife'' creator Creator/JorgeGutierrez.)

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Skrawl. It helps that he's voiced by Creator/JimCummings.

* WhatDoYouMeanItWasntMadeOnDrugs: A show about the adventures of a child in a world made of chalk? ...yeaaaah.
* TheWoobie: Penny in "Mother Tongue"

* ShallowParody: WordOfGod states that "Chunky" was meant to be an AffectionateParody of Music/TheRollingStones' style. The result sounds more like an ArenaRock anthem similar to Music/{{Aerosmith}} or Music/{{Foreigner|Band}}.

* TastesLikeDiabetes: The show had some detractors on the basis that it was too cutesy when compared to other Nicktoons at the time.

* UncannyValley:
** The titular character of "Skrawl's Brain"
** Robo-Rudy from "Double Trouble" is also pretty unsettling.

* ShallowParody: WordOfGod states that "Chunky" was meant to be an AffectionateParody of Music/TheRollingStones' style. The result sounds more like an ArenaRock anthem similar to {{Music/Aerosmith}} or {{Music/Foreigner}}.

** On that same train of thought, an animated series about a kid whose drawings magically come to life, featuring a bespectacled girl named Penny. [[WesternAnimation/PennyCrayon Where have we seen this before?]]
** [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls Buttercup]], one of Elizabeth Daily's most popular roles, has an episode where she destroyed the chalk of her sister, Bubbles. This becomes ironic in [=ChalkZone=], where Rudy Tabootie, who is also voiced by Daily, pretty much has chalk as his main weapon.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Snap for a little bit, as some fans (and even non-fans) loved him, while the other half didn't (which tends to be common for the "comic relief" characters). The majority of the fans in recent years love him.

* VindicatedByHistory: When it was still running, ''[=ChalkZone=]'' was despised by a lot of older Nickelodeon fans. The reasons varied, but most of them boiled down to the above misblaming of the show being accused of getting ''Zim'' canceled, the show overall being too "tame" compared to the more "edgier" Nicktoons at the time (which were, and still are, rife with NightmareFuel and [[GrossOutShow gross-out humor]]- not that ''[=ChalkZone=]'' didn't have moments like these, but they weren't a big part of the show) like ''[=SpongeBob=]'', and (inevitably) the original target audience for Nick in the early '90s growing out of the network and claiming that [[NostalgiaFilter it just wasn't as good as the old shows]]. These days, you will find much more fans than haters.

** Fans of ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'' complained that this show replaced their favorite show. While in reality, [=ChalkZone=] was delayed for two years. Not to mention that ''Zim'' was still running during the first season of the show.

* WereStillRelevantDammit: The show happened to be made several years ''after'' using chalk for things like school boards, restaurants, and the many uses that seem to pop up in the show started to become uncommon. Due to hipster baristas, shop owners and street artists, chalk seems to be making a comeback though.

** Here, we have a property involving a person creating whatever he wants using a special writing utensil... No, wait, I'm [[BaitAndSwitchComparison thinking of]] [[VideoGame/DrawnToLife something]] [[VideoGame/{{Scribblenauts}} else]], nevermind.

* BizarroEpisode: "The White Board". It has a plot [[MindScrew too screwed-up]] to explain but all we know is that in the end [[spoiler: it was all just a dream]].

** Meta example: in the episode "Future Zone", one of the torture devices Craniac 3 uses on Rudy is "the grandmother lips of the future", which is a robotic old woman with huge lips [[ItMakesSenseInContext used to kiss the victim's entire face]]. When the episode was released on the Nicktoon compilation VHS ''Nickstravaganza!'', the episode that played right before it was "[[WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarepants Grandma's Kisses]]"

* GiganticGulp: Snap's jinglebelly soda. Maybe it's used to illustrate how small Snap is, maybe just played off for laughs. He's never been seen with a jinglebelly soda that he can fit in one hand.

* TemporaryBulkChange: Goes hand in hand with chalkzone being a cartoon. The amount of times Snap has stuffed himself and become rotund has even landed ''[=Chalkzone=]'' a page on The Big Cartoon Wiki.

** A lot of the music video segments could qualify. One example would have to be "Chunky", a rock song that features lyrics about...painting your room and going to the moon with chunky peanut butter. The lyrics in a lot of the songs are very goofy and cheesy, but the EarWorm quality mixed with Rudy, Penny, and Snap's voice actresses all being really good singers make them enjoyable for a number of fans.

* EarWorm:
** The theme song, by far. To a lesser extent, the Accordion Worm song.
** The 1-minute music video songs run a close second.
** Skrawl's song. After two or three variations of it, it will never leave your head.
** "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your long hair!"
** "Put the lime in the coconut/You drink them both up..."
** "Oh, I put on my pants three legs at a time, just like anyone else, just like anyone else!"
** "Diving over the moon, swinging off of a star..."
** "There's so many things that a line can do!"
** "I'm an artist who's the smartest/and there's nothing going on my mind..."
** "Escucha mi corazón in Chalkzone, escucha mi corazón in Chalkzone..."
** Almost any of the songs could qualify. It was a ''very'' musical show.

* ViewerGenderConfusion: Snap. The character is male, but the voice sounds fairly ambiguous to some people (being voiced by Creator/CandiMilo and all).
