* AuthorsSavingThrow: Christmas 2011 introduced The Claw, which gave all players a free daily in-game gift -- usually Valor Points, healing items or a weapon or cosmetic item -- in response to criticisms that the game was pay-to-win. However, the gift items were almost always rentals.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

** Commandos also had a dash ability, making them [[UpToEleven even faster]], but this one also granted a shield. It effectively made any Commando charging at you with a knife a LightningBruiser.

** The scoped [=SMGs=] and machine guns available for purchase were infamous for tricking novice players into buying them before quickly realizing they were exactly the same as the (incredibly weak) default weapons in all but aesthetics, save for the useless scopes.
** The machete released for Commandos during the 2011 Halloween event. It was essentially a knife with a ''much'' slower swing speed and a marginally higher range. Infamously, players were tasked with scoring about 1,000 kills with the weapon within a number of weeks - a tedious and thankless feat at best that would put a dent in all but the most skilled player's kill/death ratio - to get the gold aesthetic upgrade. The developers buffed it in subsequent months, but it still remained unpopular, and players didn't bother much with the samurai sword weapon that was released a month later.

** Gunners were easily the most-used class during the game's run. Their high health and powerful guns combined with their Leg It ability combined with a rapid-healing ability and a short-range machine gun made them [[{{LightningBruiser}} Lightning Bruisers]] that could overcome most threats thrown at them.
** Long-range pistols for Soldiers and Commandos were powerful and made them deadly from a distance. They were especially useful for Soldiers, whose middling movement speed and lack of a speed-boosting ability made them the slowest class in the game.

* BrokenBase: At least one of the classes is completely broken in some way, according to the forums.
** Then we have the "Heroes is UsefulNotes/WorldWarTwo only silly" and "Heroes is not just World War Two". But there is something of a uniting factor: almost everyone agrees that it's impossible to be competative without spending about twenty dollars on Battlefunds.

* DemonicSpider: Commandos can turn invisible, have an ability to make themselves capable of dealing extra damage with their rifle, and have a Sniper Rifle. Suddenly hearing ''Clack-Clack'' coming from somewhere near you ''will'' prompt an OhCrap response.
* EarWorm: The theme tune of the game is delightfully catchy. A loading screen tip even asks you if you can whistle the whole theme tune.
* TheScrappy: Commandos get all the flak, especially on the forums. There are loads of petitions and clubs aiming to cripple the Commando by getting rid of the very features that ''define'' it as a Commando, such as Stealth and Sniper Rifle. Many servers allow only a certain number of Commandos per team, and a few ban Commandos altogether.
** The main reason being is that people don't like being knifed or sniped from midrange without warning. [[GoddamnBats Invisible snipers do not a popular class make.]]
* SerialNumbersFiledOff: Accused of being the same as a [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 certain Valve title]] in response to earlier trailers - turned out, there are clear differences between them.
* StopHavingFunGuys: Never use a tank in this game. And if you see someone using one, keep on grilling them about it in the chat and don't bother to use any weapons or explosives at your disposal to counter the tank.
** Also, "camping", when a Commando hides invisibly in a small, concealed corner and picks off stragglers from afar with his sniper rifle. Beginning Commandos often use this tactic, but as they level up they find that more experienced, hardcore players disapprove of it.

* ExcusePlot: The game's war has currently been explained to have been declared by the Royals on the Nationals after the Nationals took the gold in Olympic Cycling, making it even more SeriousBusiness then it usually is (Oh, and a Royals' newspaper claims the Nationals mocked their king's mustache during peace talks).

** To be perfectly fair, it helps that most sources (including Nationalist ones) indicate the Nationalists cheated to win the race. And so obviously they must be punished for such unspeakable perfidy, right?
