* StrawmanHasAPoint: Like the comic Red Hood raises a good point on the naivety behind the idea that someone like [[JokerImmunity Joker can continue to walk the earth]] even though he'll continue to kill countless.

* BadassDecay: The Black Mask. Several of his best lines and the CrowningMomentOfAwesome that he pulls against a (fake) Red Hood are cut away, probably to give space to the more popular Joker.

All ready covered under Downer Ending and it better fits. The Joker is back to where he started in Arkam but alive, Black Mask is out of jail and still has his empire to run and Jason is likely dead again. The F Earsome Hand of Four are to only ones stopped but they were only the means and hardly the point.

* BittersweetEnding: Batman overcomes the SadisticChoice he is presented with, and along the way, Black Mask, Joker, The Red Hood, and The Fearsome Hand of Four are all brought down. Hooray!
** [[spoiler: Then one final flashback to young Jason Todd happens. Half the point of the movie was juxtaposing Todd as Robin versus Todd as Red Hood, but the end hammers home [[BreakTheCutie what a drastic change it is]] in a [[TearJerker seriously depressing way]].]]
*** [[spoiler: "This is the best day of my life."]]

* ItWasHisSled: [[spoiler:A resurrected Jason Todd, the second Robin, is the Red Hood]]. For comic book fans, this is pretty much common knowledge and the film barely tries to treat it as a genuine mystery for long.

*** I do not think they understood the power of the Mad Clown motif. The more the DarkerAndEdgier Mad Clown laughs, the SCARIER he is. Part of it was also in the animation; Joker just didn't have the same energy he possessed in other adaptations. The result is feeling like the Joker is just way too CALM throughout most of the film.

* FoeYay: When Batman tells Red Hood he thinks about killing the Joker almost every day, the Joker replies with a flattered "So, you ''do'' think about me!"
* FridgeBrilliance: Nightwing and Batman visit Joker in Arkham to see whether he was related to the Red Hood in any way, which he is not. [[spoiler: However, his actions caused Jason Todd's death and subsequent transformation into Red Hood after his resurrection]], so in a way the Joker was linked to Red Hood in more ways than one.

* WTHCastingAgency: Reactions to John [=DiMaggio=]'s casting as Joker were... mixed, to say the least. The release of the character models featuring a somewhat burlier Joker eased concerns somewhat. And then the film was released and a lot of those who doubted he could pull off the role did a complete 180.
** Audiences were also skeptical of JensenAckles playing a lead character, as he had never done voice acting work prior to this film.
*** And for most of the film, the character is... relatively flat. Really, a truly emotional performance would be LargeHam for the character. Ackles really delivers at the end. Most of the doubters, I must imagine, were impressed.
** And anyone other than Kevin Conroy as Batman raises suspicions. But Greenwood did a good job, especially as a Batman who is supposed to be a little older than we normally see him.
*** Which is probably why he wasn't Kevin Conroy. Well, that, and an attempt to get a little distance from the animated series, awesome as it was.
** The fact that Greenwood and [=DiMaggio=]'s versions of Batman and Joker sound like deeper[=/=]older versions of KevinConroy's and MarkHamill's certainly helps.
** Criticism for Greenwood's Batman is mainly derived from the fact that his Batman sounds similar to Conroy's, which means he gives a good performance but that leads to people saying that they should have just hired Conroy. For John [=DiMaggio=]'s Joker it had to with him sounding a lot like [[{{Futurama}} Moes or Bender]] at some points.
