* GirlShowGhetto: Averted by using an equal cast of two guys and two girls, giving both the male and female lead important roles and singing time, making Ally an {{Adorkable}} nerdy girly girl and Austin a cute PowerBlond to attract both male and female viewers with eye candy. You can take the viewpoint that the show is ''slightly'' shifted more towards girls because Ally is just barely more of the lead character than Austin is due to Ally's music store being where the majority of the plot takes place and that it was Ally the audience was introduced to first.

* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome: Surprisingly averted considering how easy a StraightMan lead can slip into this in the kid-com genre. The reasons could include:
** That no-one else in the cast apart from AustinAndAlly sing in any meaningful way. Also that Austin is male and Ally female. This avoids the two major ways an internal fanbase can split (with groups preferring one character over another, or groups that prefer different combinations of male and female singers) and as such avoids potentially vicious fanbase in-fighting.
** There is no realistic opponent to the Austin/Ally 'Auslly' {{Shipping}} pairing which would cause DieForOurShip in the event of a lopsided FanPreferredCouple ''not'' including the lead.
*** If both aspects existed they could combine to a monster EnsembleDarkhorse that becomes more popular than the lead character which could relegate the lead to DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome.

** Austin actually getting the record deal that is teased in the sequal episode ''Albums & Auditions'' probably isn't going to happen for a similar reason. It would likely change the premise too much.
** Likewise with Ally actually leaving to go to the music school in New York in the same episode.

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: Austin probably won't be [[spoiler: permanently losing his voice]] in "Successes & Setbacks", since that would reduce the show's premise to a big pile of rubble.
** Austin actually getting the record deal that is teased in that episodes probably isn't going to happen for a similar reason. It would likely change the premise too much.
