Here, he's a [[TheDitz bumbling idiot who barely seems to notice that he and Arthur are in danger throughout the book]]. This could ''theoretically'' be explained by his being stoned, if not for the fact that A), he is only seen smoking the Joystick twice, at the very beginning and end of the book, and B), as noted below, his decision to do so at all is pretty out of character.

At one point, Ford himself mentions that he's still working on that, but will the question ever be revisited? [[TemptingFate It's improbable...]]

* FoeYay: Between Wowbagger and Zaphod. Right? I can't be the only one seeing this. Wowbagger continually remarks on the supposed fatness of Zaphod's arse and reacts with satisfaction to Zaphod's threats to kill him.
