* FunnyAneurysmMoment: There is a line in the book that references Ford Prefect puffing and panting after running a short distance, followed by the joke that "Writers are not used to that kind of exercise". Douglas Adams, the series' progenitor, died of a heart attack he sustained while working out.

** "Frood" isn't an adjective! Zark is spelled with a lower-case z! [[SarcasmMode Did this guy even read the first five books?]]
** [[Creator/DouglasAdams Adams]] ''did'' use "froody" as an adjective at least once. Can't forget that.
** So what? Even if "froody" is an adjective, "frood" is not and never has been.
* And what the BELGIUM did he do to Ford!?!?!? He doesn't smoke!

* OnlyTheCreatorDoesItRight: At least a significant portion of the DouglasAdams fans out there were not at all satisfied with this book.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: ** Trillian, who came across as a very poor mother in ''Literature/MostlyHarmless'', thanks to her MarriedToTheJob lifestyle, is much more sympathetic here and spends a lot of the book dealing with her guilt over how she raised Random.

* CharacterDerailment: In Adams's books, Ford is a very resourceful, streetwise researcher who [[BrilliantButLazy admittedly prefers getting blind drunk to doing work]] and is [[OnlySaneMan fairly normal compared to]] [[CrapsackWorld the rest]] [[WorldGoneMad of the universe]]. Here, he's a [[TheDitz bumbling idiot who barely seems to notice that he and Arthur are in danger throughout the book]]. This could ''theoretically'' be explained by his being stoned, if not for the fact that A), he is only seen smoking the Joystick twice, at the very beginning and end of the book, and B), as noted below, his decision to do so at all is pretty out of character.

* And what the BELGIUM did he do to Ford!?!?!? He doesn't smoke!
** I actually didn't finish the book because I put it down immideately after reading
-> "Listen to old Fordy"
because it was the most stupid thing that I've read and completely out of character for him.
